Hey guys, I'm deciding between those 2 cameras. The Canon is about 7 months old, but in SUPERB condition, the former owner is agreat friend of mine. The Pentax I would get brand new. The Pentax is WAY lighter and significantly smaller, and has pretty much the SAME specs. Only difference is that it costs just over $450, while the Canon from my friend I would be buying for around $315. Obviously Canon are more experienced making DIGITAL cameras, so that's something to consider. What do you guys suggest?

Get the cheaper one because both will be obsolete in a year or two. They both make a great camera. If the canon is great condition, save the money and buy yourself some big memory cards so you never have to download when you go on vacation.

the optio S can fit in an closed altoids tin if size is important to you.

The s30 is a good camera but pretty bulky.

Good point about the price. the Canon is in good condition, but no matter how good, it ain't brand new. The Optio looks way more fragile though, and buying a memory card is in the plans already.

Officemax is selling the Kodak LS443 for $299 starting tomorrow. It's usually $399 elsewhere. it's a "hurry while supplies last" thing

It's 4 megapixels and 3x optical zoom. It comes with a charging/transfer dock. uses secure digital or MMC cards in addition to the 16mb built in memory.

this is the best site for digicam reviews (not too technical) and photo samples http://steves-digicams.com

$315 for that used camera is too much. Tell him to keep it. You can get that same camera new for $350, or lower. If you buy it from him, make sure you get all the manuals. It is pretty complicated.

I just bought the same class Nikon (Coolpix 4300) new for $350, store price is like $450-500.

Don't believe the specs. Nikon and Canon are just better.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but the specs and especially the SIZE (weight, height, width n stuff) made me think twice about it.

I know I can get it new for $350, but this one is in great shape.

I'll check out the other cams, thx guys. Anyone else want to chip in, I'd appreciate it.

I have the canon s30, and the display crapped out the other day right after the warrenty ran out. It costs 150 to fix it.

Now, truth be told, I took the camera to a fire to get insurance shots, and there was a lot of smoke. After that, I left the camera in my glove box, and it was hot in the truck. Next time I tried to use it - no display, only white pixels.

Avoid that, and otherwise it's been a really good camera, with easy interface. Not good for zoom, though. If you need more zoom - go to the olympus with the 10x optical zoom.
