Just posting this in advance since I'm sure some people will be gone for Christmas.

As I mentioned once before, we're going to have to do the offseason in one day, since the damn game apparently won't let you save in the middle of it. The offseason consists of the draft lottery, resigning free agents, the actual draft, and free agency. Refer back to the salaries thread to see which of your players will become free agents. (any with 1 year deals) The whole thing should take about 3 to 4 hours, I'm guessing.

    Draft Lottery

Pretty self explanatory... computer generated, I'll announce the results in the chat.

    Extensions

You have to look at your players to see who is free agents. Some players will only sign short-term deals, some players will only sign long-term deals, some players won't sign with your team at all for various reasons (playing time, etc.) 300k is the max on that game, and the minimum is 30k. So, to give an NBA conversions chart, 300k would be like 12 mil, 150k like 6 mil, etc. If you don't feel comfortable doing this for the first year, I'll be happy to do it for your team. However, give me a general idea as to what you want to do. For example, if a guy wants a little more than he's worth, should I give it to him, or do you want to let him walk and get under the cap? (The cap is 1 mil) You can resign your own players in disregard to the cap. So, if you are over the cap and not near being under anytime soon, I'd recommend resigning all of your players. If you can't be there in chat, email me and let me know what you want to do.

    Draft

Because of the enormous volume of players and the extensive nature of the profiles, I can't type them up for everyone. The way the game sets it up is it has a list of players and next to them it says "1st overall pick, 2nd overall, 3rd, 4th", then "top 10", "top 15", late first, early 2nd, mid 2nd, etc. You tell me the positions you're interested in, and I'll give you profile information on the guys from those spots that are talented enough to go around your pick. If you want best available, I can do that too, and give you the 3-5 top player profiles around your draft pick. Even if you tell me a certain position, I will always tell you if one player at another position is clearly the best available. Again, email me if you can't be here, and I can take care of it for you.

    Free Agency

I think each team has exceptions, although the amount I am not sure of right now. I will reply back with information in this thread when I find out. Anyway, for the most part, the only participants in free agency will be those teams under the cap. If multiple teams under the cap want to sign one player for his price (and he agrees to play for both teams) we will treat it like an NBA sign and trade, and the team who can negotiate best with the previous owner will get the player. If that owner is not in the chat, I will act as owner for them.

Anyway, as we get closer to the date, I will reply with some more specific times and information. However, I'm guessing that some people might be going on Christmas vacations soon, and if they are, this should give them a chance to email me with information before they leave. I hope to get the season done this week, and get the playoffs started Wednesday or Friday. Because of the small volume of teams in the playoffs (esp. late), I am considering going like the baseball sim and simming it all in a night or two, assuming those two teams are there in the chat. I will give scores for each game, a chance to make changes, etc.

    Questions? Comments? Post any below.

In NBA Live 2001, at least on the PC version, during free agency any team could sign a minimum player no matter what the cap situation. Do you know if this is true for the game we are playing on now? If that is the case, maybe the teams under the cap can sign all FA's that aren't minimum, and save the minimums for another "common draft" so that everyone has a chance to sign players if they need to. The worst teams would get the first pick, best teams last picks, etc..

Just a suggestion, but it depends on whether or not teams can sign minimum players during free agency. What do you think Cat?

DHR, I have played the game and you can sign however many min. contracts you like. But I thought Cat already said there was gonna be a common draft? When will the common draft be Cat...

    DHR,

I think that's the case on this game as well, but I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've seen, a player has to absolutely suck to sign for the minimum. It's very scarce, so I don't think we'd need a common draft for that.

We will, however, have a common draft for all players who go unsigned in free agency. (IE they won't sign with the teams that have the money, or want too much money) Those players will sign for the minimum for one year with any team out there, and you can negotiate with them on a long-term deal from there. Apparently, you would have their rights, and could sign them after one year in disregard to the cap if they still want to play for you. I'm not sure how many rounds it will be, because I'm not sure how many quality players will be left.

    duke,

The common draft won't probably be until the following week after free agency. I'll even sim a few preseason games before then, to let everyone see how their players are doing and judge their needs based on that. Basically, I'll do it whenever is convenient for most of you to be in the chat.

I'll try, but I'm on call now so I can get summoned in to work at any time with little to no notice.

I think Shaq and Kobe are both locked in for a long time, so I shouldn't have to worry about them. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll probably be here Saturday afternoon, as well. However, I have no idea what to do or what to expect....so, Cat, I'm going to have to rely on you to get me through this.

    Fade,

No risk of losing those two. They're locked up for quite a while. You can see the free agents you have in the original salaries thread I made. (any with one year contracts) If you don't know if you'll be there, just let me know who you want to resign and for how long, if you have a preference. I don't think that money is a big thing with your team, because with Shaq and Kobe you'll be above the cap for a long while. Also, remember that the playoffs will start around tomorrow at 6, in case you didn't see it in the other thread.

    Manny,

I'll help everyone out, and I will act as temporary GM for those who aren't here. It's pretty simple, really. The players tell you what they want for a certain amount of years, and you decide whether to sign them. (unless they refuse to sign with you) For free agency, only a handful of teams will be under the cap after resignings, so those teams will tell me who they want to sign. (A list of players is available in the salaries thread-- any with 1 year deals) Over the cap teams can only sign minimum players, and I'll tell you guys in the chat who will sign for that. If two teams want the same player, they will have to negotiate with that players present GM for his services. (sign and trade type deal) If that GM isn't there, I'll act as GM for them.

BTW, I'll be leaving for the Sugar Bowl on Sunday, so there will be a delay until late next week for the common draft (unsigned free agents) and preseason.

Cat, I won't be there, I will be at the All-College Basketball Tournament ( OU- Texas Southern, OSU- Ball State) All night. I will probably leave around 5:00. Just make sure you give Hamilton and Russell whatever they want, And try to resign Starks to a short-term deal.( Not over 100 k though) I don't have any draft picks, so you don't have to worry about drafting, and don't think I will have enough money to buy any good FAs. I think that I want to let the rest of my FAs walk, but I will edit this post if I forgot someone.
