This is going to sound corny, but I am wondering if there is any way to give an appropriate but heartfelt 'send-off' to Cuttino, Steve Francis and Cato from Houston fans, before those guys become ancient history. To me -- someone who is very excited about the trade, by the way -- it has always seemed a little tacky the way teams cut ties with traded players who have given alot of soul and fond memories to an organization. It's a business, but not exactly -- you get attached to the guys and the stories and the flaws and the whole deal. I remember being crushed when we sent Horry, Cassell, and Chucky to Phoenix. It was exciting to have Barkley, but Horry, Cassell et al. were the guys who won us two rings. I thought we were a little eager-to-forget their time in Houston once Barkley became a Rocket. My suggestion, if possible would be something on the Rockets website to say goodbye, not overly sentimental, but a collection of 'favorite memories' or 'thanks' or 'good luck.' Solicit the contributions, edit them (deleting all the obnoxious ones) and posting them on a page or something, letting those guys know we appreciate their time in Houston. Am I alone here? It's corny as hell, but I think it might be original and way classy for a city and organization. As a fan, it seems really jolting to ship your guys -- even for Tracy McGrady -- without some public thanks, good luck, something. To me, seeing Cuttino go is painful especially, as the last Rocket to have played with the last era. thanks, interested in feedback
i agree completly with you CBrownFanClub. When we trade harrington and dickerson for francis i also felt bad that we lost those players, ofcourse i was also excited because of francis. i feel bad that we lost the core of our team of the last 4 years. it is too bad. I feel excited that we will have T-Mac in a rocket jersey, but still hate to see the players i have been rooting for for the last couple of years go. Good luck to you all Cuttino, Steve and Kelvin. we will remember you for the good times you gave us. Good luck with orlando. and we will see you in the finals in 2006
Ed, I say this politely as possible, but could you please add one "Arjen Robben" to your sig? cheers, VL
i completely agree and would be down for that. francis in particular has been my favorite player since we got him and since 90 percent of my posts have been dedicated to defending him there's no way ill just stop cheering for him. same goes for cat and cato who were core pieces to what the rockets where trying to do for the last 4 or 5 years. good luck to those guys, hopefully they will all play for orlando so it will be easier to keep track of them.
im totally with you on that. though i am very thrilled to see tmac come to town, we cant forgot how much these guys sacrificed for the sake of the team. sure stevie didnt put up awesome numbers this year, but he was trying hard to change his game to fit jvg's system. that is a lot of respect. lets show them some love before they start next season in orlando.
If nothing else, you can certainly submit your thoughts to the "You Said It" section of the website, and I think they would probably be more than happy to print them.
Folks, I think some of you don't understand that this is a business. Emotions can't get involved... Don't you remember the situation with Hakeem? It's business... McGrady, Howard, Lue, Gaines should have 110% of our support... Now in light of the sweat, blood, and tears that Stevie, Cuttino, and Kelvin gave, the Orlando Magic should be everyone's second or third favorite team...Hence the name if the forum you post on... P.S. - I now look back and applaud CD move to attain Glen Rice... they provided Steve, Yao and Cuttino with a seasoned veteren who taught them gentlemenship and leadership...and as a financial move...we have 6.9 million(not exact) to spend on a point guard or a back up center...
Right Let's see: ** Cat, you get a 6 year pin and a Timex wrist watch ** SF, you only get a 5 year pin but also get the watch ** And Kelvin, we give you an Alley-oop plaque - so named for you because you are sooooooo special We appreciate all your contributions to the organization - and be sure to say hello to Mickey for us. GET REAL D R
