Dear Rick, In the NBA, it is customary to double team a guy who is hot and shooting about 75% for the game. If a player is hitting all kinds of off balance shots, and having a hand in the face is just not working, one must adjust the defensive strategy and force someone else on the other team to make some tough shots. While it may be fun for some people to watch Ellis score on a myriad of shots, for us Rocket fans it would be more fun if you actually decided to earn your paycheck and actually coached the team and changed up the strategy. Oh, and your best shotblocker, the guy that was drafted number 8 by the Knicks last year, has not played in 2 games. Good luck going forward, and please remember, that the title...HEAD coach, means you can actually coach the players a little. Mmmmmmkay? Thanks, DD
Well said. You can blame Battier or Brooks for not playing defense, but in the end, the coach has the power to adjust his lineups and substitutions. He didn't and the Rockets got punished as a result.
Adelman as the Rockets head coach has done nothing really to spark this team. It is like he is afraid to make substitutions wtf is up with that if you do not substitution fresh guys you will lose 65% to 75% of the time
No need to coach. We have elite superstar in Aaron Brooks and future allstar Budinger. Coach would only be holding them back.
I just don't understand how the team can continue to try something when it is fairly clear that one player is having a night where the basket is as big as the ocean, you have to deny the ball to him and double him every time down to disrupt his rythmn. Just bizzare. DD
Adelman still figuring out the squad but my biggest complaint it not playing Hill, not playing Jeffries and Miller enough. I would have double teamed Ellis and Curry more and made the rest of their squad beat you.
Oh I agree, but why not in the game thread or the post game thread my friend? This is a knee jerk thread from a veteran poster. While we're on the subject... Brooks looked like crap tonight. He was obviously annoyed by Curry and the lack of calls he was getting. This team needs something to get a spark, but I don't know any player that would do the trick right now...
<br> I completely agree with you. I mean seriously we have seen it over the years MULTIPLE times with Adelman. He just does not change strategies. The man does not care, he will do one thing all game long. Ellis should have been doubled LONGGG ago. Yet, hmm.... He scores 46 points. Cool. Another win for RICK THE RULER. ...oh wait

Completely agree with this. As I've posted, I was absolutely enraged that Adelman played Brooks, Scola, and Battier as much as they did. I don't think they're awful. Scola had a monstrous game, as a matter of fact. But they came off an insanely tough game last night, one where all three didn't look at their best, and yet Adelman insisted on playing them monstrous minutes without letting them spell their legs. It's just stupid and counter intuitive. We're in the second freaking game of the season. Yao wasn't playing. Why in the blue ass won't you play someone like Hill? Or put in Miller a bit earlier? Or let Ish run the point a bit more? Or move Lee over to the 1 or let him guard Ellis earlier? I mean, what the hell is the point of letting AB make mistake after mistake while he's cold as ice-- which I don't doubt is at least partly due to fatigue? What the hell is the point of letting Scola have to run so much after he came off a hectic summer and we're going to need the Argentinian beast to not crash later in the season? Why are we playing Battier when he just came off a night switching off Odom and Kobe and was clearly a step slower than he used to be? Adelman was an absolute joke tonight and if this keeps up we won't go far in the playoffs. Our talent is there. We are so so deep. Morey assembled an insanely deep roster. We freaking almost matched a freakishly hot GS team in points and nearly knocked off the championship Lakers yesterday. But almost is not enough. We're so close and it's no longer just a talent issue-- it's about managing your talent. And Adelman frankly isn't doing it.
I agree with you 100%. Hard to miss a 6'10" player with dreads on the bench, unless your heart is set on not playing him. We need some serious work on this defense pronto. Might be a bit premature but: Bring back JVG
