I was thinking about the Yao Ming Dilema and had one question, Do you people think that the Rockets will soon put a deadline to the CBA to sign or not, because this is begining to feel like a joke? i wonder what type of problems they have that are getting in the way?
No deadline at all. Why? He's a great prospect, worth waiting for. I don't have that "joke" feeling at all, and no one else should till at least after the Asian games.
I dont know about you guys, but I have a bad feeling about this whole signing. If you remember back in the summer, they thought they would have him signed by the World Championships in Idianapolis. I would be that the either the CBA or whatever other faction in China has control over Yao, is making outrageous demands and are trying to play contract poker with the Rockets. I would not even assume that Yao is automatically going to be here within a few days of the Asian games. I betcha they dont let him step foot on a plane until all terms are agreed to. Not to be pesimistic, but I wouldnt be suprised if this signing doestnt happen till the end of training camp or into the start of the regular season. Something about all this gives me have my doubts. Lets all home this deal gets done by the 20th!
It's all good. He'll be in the Rox PJ's for opening game. My only worry: limiting Yao's minutes so he won't be crippled before the All-Star break.
I'm so tired of hearing this. You guys are nuts. On draft night it was made clear that a signing was not likely until October, possible but not likely. He'll probably be here around the 17th - 20th and sign then. Sheesh. Chill please. 500 posts saying he will sign mid-late October and you guys dont read them.
They lose more if he doesn't come here. If he doesn't come here, the NBA will go on, the Rockets will still make the playoffs, and we won't worry about it again. Of course, it's a wasted draft pick, but compare it to the fact that they lose Yao Ming, possibly the greatest athlete in their country, millions of dollars, and Chinese players won't make it in the NBA. Yao Ming said he WILL retire, and besides, we hold his FIBA rights, meaning he can't play for his club. Interesting question: If we somehow don't get Ming, will the NBA compensate us for the draft pick?
From what the Chronicle has been saying, it sounds to me like Yao's agent is who is holding stuff up, not anyone in China. And I don't even think Zhang is holding things up: I think he and the Rockets are taking their time dickering because nothing can be signed until Yao arrives in the States.
There is no problem with the CBA. Its a Macho kind of thing! They just want to flex their muscle, by saying he is our player till we say otherwise, they are in the drivers seat and will only spring into action as soon as Yao Ming has completed his duties. Dont you remember the long time it took to get the OK prior to the Draft? Its just their way of doing things!
