Greer leaving WSU for NBA Assistant coach to be advance scout for Houston Rockets By Marc Katz Dayton Daily News FAIRBORN | — When Houston Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy asked third-year Wright State assistant basketball coach Larry Greer if he wanted to be an advance scout for the NBA team, there was no hesitation from Greer. Greer has not yet signed a contract with the Rockets and was working at his WSU desk in the new Setzer Pavilion on his first day back from vacation. Greer becomes the second of head coach Paul Biancardi's staff to leave this summer. Kyle Getter, director of basketball operations, took a similar job at Marshall. Greer said the NCAA investigation into alleged infractions committed by Biancardi when he was at Ohio State had nothing to do with his leaving. Ohio State is to answer a notice of allegations from the NCAA on Thursday. "This has nothing to do with that," Greer said. "This was a tough one. Paul is one of my best friends. This is hard for me because I like so many things about Wright State. But I'm going to the NBA. It's a great opportunity. "And the best part is, I don't have to move. I'm going to stay in Dayton." Greer's job with the Rockets will be as an advance scout for pro games, a job his brother, Andy — who will stay with the Rockets as an assistant coach — held. He will alternate traveling two weeks and being home two weeks during the season. His summers will be free. "When you hire good people, people are going to hire them," Biancardi said. "It's great for Larry and a sign we hire good people. It's great for him." Wright State is posting the job and Biancardi said he does not yet have anyone in mind to take Greer's place. http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/content/sports/wsu/daily/0823greer.html
