In the last 10 days, David Wesley has kept the Rockets from losing two games late due to his teammates' stupidity. In one game, he calmly sank four free throws when his teammates were missing left and right.

Then, in the Heat game, Wesley played FLAWLESS basketball in the final thirty seconds, when Miami had all that momentum. He sank two free throws; wisely fouled Dwyane Wade twice just past half court to prevent Miami from getting off a three-pointer. Then, he wisely missed the second of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left, realizing that Miami was out of timeouts and that there was no way for them to get off a shot with that little time left.

If the Rockets advance in the postseason, it will be in no small part due to David Wesley's late-game heroics and heady play.

David Wesley has won my respect. Definately better than Derrick Fisher IMO. His defense is just awesome. got a quick trigger. i think he's our best all around shooter, tho you could argue barry. but can hit the 3, the midrange, the freethrows. he doesn't make mistakes. he knows his role, whether to shoot or pass or whatever, can run the break. he is great. too bad he's getting old. but definately underrated. i have no problem with him shooting 15 or more times a night cuz they're mostly wide open looks. If he's hitting his 3s we are hard to beat.

They need to give him the ball more. He has produced whenever we needed him to. T-Mac needs to take less shots and distribute the ball to Wesley.

Third best player on the Rockets, big ears, if he were four inches taller he could be one of the five best SGs in the NBA, even though he's short taller players have a hard time posting him up, smart, tough, versatile, he wears number 7, Rockets became a really good team after he was picked up, I like him.

Yeah... 1-8 from the arc.. give him the damn ball!!

I love Wesley, and I feel he is getting "his" so to speak. I didn't know how to judge the JJ/Boki trade, I wanted to atleast give DW a chance. Thankfully, I'm not eating my words ;)

Hey Miek James was 2-4 from 3 point land... but he missed 4 freaking free throws and almost cost us the game by fouling Damon Jones on a 3 pointer

..Tmac also missed a free throw that would have iced the game

... so I would say its ok to give the ball to wesley in the last 2 mins of the 4th

When he shoots, I am not sure if it going to go in, and really that is how I feel. I am more confident in T-Mc jumpers than David Wesley. Whereas with James and Barry I expect it the shot to go in. I demand that it does. Welsley is hitting his FT down the stretch. I like that. But his jumper does not give me goosebumps. I really don't care tho'. The team is playing well with him in there so it's all good.

Unlike James, he didn't miss his free throws.

Wesley and Barry are definitely the 2 players I want on the FT line late in the game. Before Wesley made his 3 FTs, we were 1 of 8 on our last 9 FTs, we got lucky but a win is a win.

Notice I pointed out his poor 3-point shooting, not FT's. From your post, I thought you were implying that he should be given the ball to shoot more throughout the game. If you were talking about late game free throws, I apologize and agree. :)

The guy is built like a Bulldog. He reminds me of Mario Elle, but faster.

Yeah he's built like a tank, but is very quick. That's part of his ability to be a lockdown defende. He can outmuscle guys. Helps to counteract his lack of height.

I was talking about both. Wesley is a streaky player, but he would be better to shoot than the current Sura. Who else can we give the ball to besides T-Mac and James?

To the contrary, he is better in 1st quarter most of time by my observaton. It might be attributed to his stamina.

He is the best FT shooter in our team along with JB. That is for sure.

    And... he shoots enough.

isn't it great to have a debate over which of our good backcourt players are going to play (Sura, James, Wesley, Barry) rather than which useless garbage will be taking minutes tonight (Ward, Lue, Gaines,Nachbar)

Wesley's an good player. But there's a lot of overreaction in this thread. Wesley can be trusted to do the smart thing. But he's still a role player. If he's open for the last shot, give it to him. But let's not go crazy and let him try to create something at the end. Wesley does certain things well: protect the ball, play good defense, foul when necessary, hit open shots (most of the time). If you make it more than that, you reduce his value.

This is what happened with Jim Jackson. It could happen with any role player who either (1) you try to make more than he is or (2) comes to think he's more than he is.

You must have not been watching, Wesley has gotten SOOO many wide open shots, and bricked the heck out of them. He was/has been the beneficiary of so many passes form McGrady, not to mention the double teams he gets in the last few games, how else do you think he gets so many wide open shots? He knocks them down, he gets 16-18 ppg, he doesn't, like last three games, it makes people who pass to him look bad. But the whole team has been struggling lately, so I won't single him out, much like many people here do with other players (Yao, McGrady, James, Wesley, etc.).:rolleyes

8-10 from FT line, and you are complaining?!! Iced the game?! If James doesn't foul Jones for a 4-point play late in the game, we would have secured it.

Damn, you people really like to nit-pick, don't you:rolleyes:
