Just like most people, I didn't know who this guy was before today. Unlike most people, however, I did research before I outright dismissed him:

    https://www.startribune.com/timberw...first-building-trust-relationships/566824732/
    My takeaways:

-he's a culture builder (to some on here that's more important than anything else but I digress)
-he helped with the development of Lillard and McCollum when they were rookies
-he worked in the front office for the Thunder in 2010 (might even know Harden)
-primarily known as a defensive coach
-former player that's played all over the world, including a brief stint with the Wizards

Someone who'll take Tilman's lowball offer, I guess.

Mr. Vanterpool, how would you feel about a Head Coaching Internship? Should you make it to the Finals, your stipend would double

It's ALL about money folks. Brokeman is not gonna pay. It is what it is. I'm still hoping for Chris Finch or Becky Harmon

Should help financially troubled Tilman. If he turns out to be a good coach, then that's a nice bonus.

Vanterpool is one of the top assistant coaches in the league so it isn't a crazy candidate.

He is the favorite, or one of the favorites for the Pelicans job because he is very close to some in that organization (Trajan Langdon).

He is primarily a guy that builds a close relationship with his players and works very hard. He is very big on actual practice time and is known to open up the gym after hours and work with guys. He doesn't really play favorites either, he gives as much time to the 10th man as the top player if they will put in the work.

He is primarily a development coach and a defensive coach.

He has played and coached under some elite coaches around the globe and the experience has made him very open minded, and he is known for having a really positive attitude.

He was in charge of the defense in Portland and it wasn't all that great........ how much is that because their back court was Lillard and McCollum and how much of that is because Vanterpool isn't a great X's and O's coach.

He would not be a bad hire by the Rockets, he has paid his dues....

Was Nick Nurse a Known Coach before striking Gold with Kawhi Leonard and Winning a Championship.

I am all for giving younger Coaches a Chance. Since Older Coaches are irrelevant now in the NBA. Mike Dantoni system is very flawed.

Younger Coaches who knows Several Offensive and Defensive Sets in thr Offense, plus trusting the Rookies to play Playoff Minutes is huge.

If they are going to hire an assistant then I would rather have Jamahl Mosley from the Mavs.
