I don't know if this news has been posted. If so, my apologies, but I think it's a pretty nice nugget of info, so I made a thread so everyone could see it.

I thought Les was willing to spend however much? You can go over the cap to sign Chandler right?

Doubt it. We can't get a 3rd star if Parsons gets a new deal. His cap hold will be tiny.

I think everyone agrees with you except J Smith and his agent. :)

Wouldn't this mean that we could not sign a max player outright afterward. In other words, we could only trade players out (Asik, Lin, etc)?

Does that mean Rockets will decline his option and resign him as a RFA in 2014?

I have always gotten the feeling Morey intended to do Parsons and pay him early. The third star has to come via trade.

I don't think Morey wants to potentially upset Parsons + make him a UFA.

Everyone acts as if we're gonna lowball Parsons until the end of his contract. I reeeeally doubt that, given his talent, the miniscule size of his contract now, and how he helped bring us Dwight.

If history is an indication, doesn't Morey allow the RFA to test the market hence establishing his market value?

Parsons, Lin, Asik, or even Tjones can play at 3rd star level in some nights
by combining them, we got our third star

    RIGHT DECISION
I don't want Parsons wear jersey other than rockets'

True or not, I'm glad we didn't get Josh Smith.

I don't understand why we can't get another star and re-sign parsons? It could just cost us alot in tax right? but we COULD?

    How does New Jersey have

    Deron
    Joe johnson
    Paul Pierce
    Garnett
    Brook Lopez
    Jason Terry
    Kirilenko

    That's how I'm taking it.

I'd rather be able to comfortably extend Parsons and add peices thru free agency with our MLE or trade for a 3rd star than sign J Smith outright and be stuck with only those three (Harden, Howard, Smith) signed to the longer deals.

I like this decision. Most GMs would have just jumped on J Smith and hoped for the best.

Let's hope we see the defense of his rookie season + the offense of his second season moving forward.

    everyone seems about right....

Lin/Asik get traded for our 3rd star....

Then we can go over the cap to retain Parsons - prob sign him to an extension a year b4 his presen contract expires (ala Harden)...

But I don't think not paying JSmith had anything to do with it (since Les would b willing to go over the cap and pay the penalties... so retaining Parsons ia Bird rights is not an issue..).
