Draft rights held by Atlanta Hawks Set an asking price of $5 million (AUD/USD?) if the Hawks/NBA want him. Age will be 29 during the 2009-10 season. Like Luis Scola, he has consistently been involved with championship teams at domestic level. Luis never won the Euroleague, Andersen has 3 times. http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=AKT
he`s definitely worth looking at. I assume he plays both the 4 and the 5, so if he can back up Yao, that would be great. he`s obviously more polished than Dorsey, and is younger than Deke.
unfortunately, but realistically, Andersen is not NBA level. Right now, I think the player who can make an impact in the league more than any other Aussie, is Dave Barlow. He has become lights out from the perimeter and is very solid in all facets of his game.
No way. I see Barlow as a mirror image of Newley. Too Skinny and one dimensional (shooting) and his handles are not good enough to make it as a 2-guard in the NBA.
ok. so 'make an impact in the NBA' might be OTT. but i was keying moreso on the fact no other Aussie (not yet in the NBA) has a better chance than Barlow (who is at least slightly > Newley, or certainly is showing it most recently). if u disagree, please give me a name. And i mean, right now, not 2-3 years time (Mills would obviously then become a good rebuttal).
Hmm. Tough question. To be honest though i don't think there is anyone who is even close to making an NBA team right now outside of Mills. The only other player i can think of atm is Joe Ingles, but he could also be a stretch. Probably more in the Mills basket of 2-3 years away before he has a real opportunity. On that note though, i think it is clear that these guys should be passing up the opportunity to play professionally in a mediocre league like the NBL, and instead go to a div 1 college and learn the game there. Not only is it better scouting wise, but young players just develop a much better overall game over there than they do busting their butts for 50k a year here.
I do see him able to play in the NBA. He's a top PF in FIBA and also has the physical tools to fit in the NBA. But unfortunately he's more a PF than a Center.
