Just wanted to let you guys know that after the Suns and Nuggets game David Aldridge was on TNT and was predicting who would win in the first round. When they talked about the Houston vs. Dallas matchup, Aldridge stated that he favored the Rockets to win this series because of their defense and that he believes the chemistry between Yao and T-mac has been solid since the All Star Break. He also stated that for the Rockets to win this series Bob Sura must step up.
I really like Aldridge.. not just because he praises the Rockets but his analysis seems to always be up-to-date and current. I'm so sick of hearing that we are a "slow it down" team....He also mentioned the importance of Bob Sura.
Also made a point to mention the passing of Clarence "Big House" Gaines, which meant a lot to me. Mr. Gaines is the grandfather of one of my best friends (his Mom was quoted in the AP obit), and is a too-often overlooked legend.
Simple really: Loud-mouths = higher ratings. Intelligent talk is really discouraged on TV. Personality counts for EVERYTHING. In fact, you don't even need to know your facts, just make things up as you go to fit your argument, and not the other way around (fitting your argument to the facts). Case in point: Mark Jackson
The Mav fans seem to have some un-founded confidence over Houston. Most of them thing Houston will be a easy matchup for the Mavs. Obviously they have seen us play enough as of late. I hope the Mav team would have such confidence on us too. They are with fragile team with a rookie coach and known to screw up things in the playoff. Once the series starts, we are hitting from all over the floor, inside outside, like we have been doing, they are going to panic. So I just wish Mav team could take us lightly as their fans do, which are bunch of idiots. http://www.mavtalk.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=004519
For the Rockets to make David Aldridge look a wise Yao needs to turn it up in the playoffs. B/c it seems that Dampier and Bradley get up for playing Yao.
Acctualy I found a very insight comment from Mav. fans website: Post by Mav fans http://www.mavtalk.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=004519 Houston is going to be a much tougher foe than you think. If I were a Mavs fan, I'd rather wish for Denver, Memphis, Seattle or Sac. Jeff Van Gundy is a pretty sly coaching guru, don't you think? Avery is still kind of new at this type of capacity. Houston's been rather hot as well, winning some difficult big games of late. They beat Shaquille O'Neal and the Heat when their winning streak was at a crescendo. They tamed the smoking Suns in their own building when hardly anyone does it the way they did. They knocked the red-hot Nuggets, that 24-2 post All-Star record, 10 game winning streak. And didn't Houston destroy the Mavs up in Dallas this year not too long before All-Star break? Couldn't stop T-Mac in that one, remember? It's one thing to be confident in the Mavs, but this overconfident against a tough, tough defensive Houston team that can slow it down, hit 3s, and has tough, physical players? Dallas is not exactly a hard team. Dallas should be fortunate that Juwan Howard is out for the year. When they were on a roll with Howard, they almost reached contender level as they had that eight game win streak before his unavailabilty. Houston had to adjust after he went out...and it seems they have. We certainly will see a lot of fireworks coming from the likes of Dirk/T-Mac, Yao/Finley, Stackhouse/Wesley...but I really think beyond the Shawn Bradley boosterism, a real concern is the coaching of Jeff Van Gundy...and a guy by the name of Dikembe Mutoumbo. These are the X-factors beyond the glamor matchups. If this old guy owns the paint for an appreciable amount of time like he has been and slows the games down...and the Rockets dangerous outside shooting is on like it has been...Dallas will not win. It's still crucial for the Mavs to maintain some kind of gritty inside presence, somehow. For Dallas to win, they totally have to get Houston of their game, that is run and run, frustrate T-Mac constantly and Bradley will have to have three or four games (at least) where he stops Yao from getting double-doubles. Indeed, Shawn will have his work snagging balls from Dikembe, a fierce rebounder. Dirk, Stack and Finley will have to be on target with their barrage as they run up and down the floor. Yao learned some valuable things from last year going up against Shaq and the Lakers in the first round. The Mavs have improved their D with Avery taking over this year but we still have to see if they can reach Houston's level, when the big boys start to smack people in the paint. Yao has been showing some attitude lately. We know what Weatherspoon and Dikembe will bring to the trenches for H-town. But this is the playoffs and nothing will really come easy apart from opponents' injuries and other such bad luck. Houston is not the neighboring lambchop you think.
nah, bc he mentions spoon in the same sentence as deke as far as bringing something to the table.. hmm
Yeah, that is exactly I am thinking about.[ QUOTE]Originally posted by YallMean I think he might be a Houston fan posting there. [/QUOTE]
Yallmean, I visited MavTalk2.0 briefly for the 1st time and saw you were basically trying to take on the whole board by yourself. Not worth it man. Especially with some of the hilarious garbage those people were posting (namely that idiot mulvany) they aren't worth your time.
That Mulvany dude is hilarious. He thinks Bob Sura isn't "a starting point guard in the NBA", we don't have a bench outside of Deke, can't score for half a quarter, don't have any offensive weapons outside of TMac, and can't slow down Dirk. He doesn't seem to realize that we don't HAVE to slow down Dirk, just his teammates. Plus, a Sura/James combo is better at the point than than Jason Terry and Darrell Armstrong (IMO, of course). And, just looking at the season stats, do the Mavericks HAVE a bench? Josh Howard scores 12.5 per, and Erick Dampier provides some decent stats sometimes, and that's about it. I'd take our all-around depth, personally. All in all, it should be a good series. I'll be a homer and pick Rockets in 7.
Mornin' everyone. Mavs fan here. I don't post much at Mavs Talk for the exact reasons you pointed out. I say you guys head over to Dallasbasketball.com for some slightly unbiased views regarding this unpredictable Playoff match-up.
The funniest sh*t I read on Mavtalk was the touting of Shawn Bradley as the second best center in the league. Wow. Have you seen that walking skeleton? He can't even dribble....The Mavs fans evidence was that SB was improving (15 points last game or a few games ago...) WOW! Is everybody in Dallas that dumb? I almost pissed my pants when I read what they were saying about Bradley. Sad.
why on earth would you post on mavtalk? i get stupid head just from hearing about the site. Dallas-Mavs.com By far the most intelligent Mavs site on the net.
