I put this in here since Skinner was a likely target of the Rockets.

This just now from David Aldridge's chat.

Derek Kalamazoo Michigan: How good are the chances of the Pistons resigning Rasheed? Are they trying to find out in time so they could still get Mehmet if Sheed turns them down?

David Aldridge: (2:28 PM ET ) You can wave goodbye to Okur. But I think that helps Detroit's chances of keeping Sheed--as does Philly coming to terms with Brian Skinner today. That takes the Sixers out of the running.

Skinner played a year or two in Philly, this isn't a big surprise. Disappointing though.

Skinner going to Philly isnt a surprise. It probably was Philly's back up plan when Blount went off the board.

My question now is, for the Rockets who is the Big they are going to target? Is there one available in FA?

I am beginning to think that the only way we can get another Big is via the Trade Exception. Something like Getting Brent Barry and Calvin Booth for our T.E.+Spoon or something like that.

I know supposedly we are gathering interest from Free Agents... but I don't see anything happening. All the ones mentioned for possible interest to us are getting snapped up by other teams.

The Rockets would have to work out a deal with Washington for Etan Thomas since he is a RFA -- and reports indicate they will match. If the Rockets try for Thomas and fail, Boston (Chris Mihm, Kendrick Perkins) and Cleveland (Tony Battie) are the last remaining hopes other than a trade of some sort with Seattle for one of their bad contract centers and either Brent Barry or Rashard Lewis.

ostertag and doleac are still out there. barry, fisher, and jones too.

    we still have options.

what i think we are doing is waiting for the teams willing to give back-ups 6yrs/$40 million to take who they want. then whoever is left will be forced to sign a "normal" contract for us.

i like that plan....we will find another great bargain like jj.

I don't like this wait till the Market dies down tactic that the Rockets are using. Same tactic they used last year and what happen Larry Brown went to Detroit. All the good free agents will be gone and the Rockets will get the leftover scraps.

how many games did Larry Brown PLAY again? and we waited and signed a player that easily became the 4th best player on the team in JJ.

either do i. But we only need role players, nothing fancy. So i guess we can wait. But i want to sign a point guard now. We need one. IF we dont we are gonna be screwed.

Brian Skinner gets 5 year/25 mil. That's a lot of money for someone who's likely a backup on most teams. This year's FA market is just crazy. I hope that the Rockets won't have to pay this type of money to find a backup big man.

Nah, we've got the hook up. It's depressing to read about teams who don't have Yao and T-Mac.

The point is to get the best possible players to surround Mcgrady and Yao.

WOW, I knew he was getting 5 years but didnt know it was for 25M! That is almost the entire MLE! And to think we were hoping we could get Skinner for HALF the MLE! Just goes to show you how Bigs are getting HUGE bloated contracts this offseason!

I dont think the Rockets will get a Big with their MLE. They would have to overpay with too many years on it. I think the Trade Exception might be the way to go. Get someone with only 3 or less years on their contract.

Skinner to philly 5 yr 25mil

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1836401

Whose left to backup yao? I dont see very many choices. With so much cap space this summer some people are getting rediculas contracts. 41 mil for foyle? 65 for nash? 29 for Alston 50 mil for okur, 39 mil for turkoglu?

Im betting Etan Thomas will get a sizeable contract this year. Dont know how many bigmen are left, but with the MLE supposedly going to Barry we wont have any money to sign them. Bigmen are expensive this year and the 1 million dollar exception(1.6 acutally) will prolly not get us a decent one. I hope we dont have a nbdl center backing up Yao next year.
