looking to expand my Dave Matthews Band collection was thinking of buying some of his concert dvds.. maybe Central park and one called Folson something.... are they good or is it better to get the cd versions also any good places to get them cheap??
I was going to start a thread on Concert DVD's smeg. I started my collection a couple of weeks ago. So far I got: The Last Waltz- (Excellent) Concert For George (Harrison)- Fantastic!!! All-Star lineup led by Clapton. Very Moving Tribute. Queen-Live at Wembley Stadium -Excellent Rolling Stones Live at the Max (Import)- Excellent Paul McCartney Back in the U.S.- Fantastic!!! Lots of Beatles songs!!! Bob Dylan Unplugged- You won't find a better Dylan concert Journey 2001- New singer sounds just like Steve Perry Jimi Hendrix At the Isle of Wight- Jimi's 2nd to last concert Jim Croce Live- If you like Jim Croce it's a must have Eagles hell freezes over- Too many of their newer songs for my tastes.
The Central Park show is the best DMB show I've ever seen -- it's FANTASTIC. But, I think "Listener Supported" is the best one to get first. It's shorter, and kind of more "put-together", if that makes sense. However, you couldn't go wrong with either one. "Folsom Field" is great, but I think the editing on it sucks -- they keep going to these 3-panel shots that just get annoying after the second one, IMO. Also, I think the music from the other two is better, but they're all great. I have the "Live in Chicago" VCDs -- if you want, I can put them up for you to download. This show was broadcast over the internet, and so someone recorded the video-cast on the computer. Thus, the quality's not amazing, but it's watchable.
Folsom Field. I was there. It's here on the CU campus in Boulder, CO. INCREDIBLE concert. The music was typical Dave, but the weather is what made it amazing. Literally rained all day and night. Plus, anyone who's been to Folsom knows it's a gorgeous place as you can see the mountains. So behind Dave on stage you could see the mountains, storm clouds, lightning, etc.. Almost got pneumonia, but it was worth it.
i like how when neil young comes out you can see a faint residue of white powder under his nostril. not a huge fan of the band, but that is an amazing video. how about that led zep 2 dvd set that came out last year? my roommate just got the making of the dark side of the moon. its only about 45 minutes long and mostly consists of recent interviews w/ the band, but its fascintating to watch.
Agreed that the Central Park and Listener Supported are the best Dave DVD's out. Folsom Field is edited poorly in my opinion. Too many quick camera changes for my taste.
I have Listener Supported, and I love it. The little jazzy interlude they start the show off with...leading into Rapunzel...is worth the price of the entire DVD. Many nights of dancing around the living room with my son playing air guitar along with Dave! There's a little peak into the home life of MadMax you could probably have done without!
they do but not music dvds just your main stream movies i enquired about ordering the dvds at a couple of stores here but they said DMB had left there record label/distributor and they would have to be imported fully, so then online is cheaper will wait till i get up in the morning and then if nobody else has any other online sites to reccommend i will order Central Park and Listener Supported at amazon
The editing on Central Park is flawless. The camera's zoom in on every single lick or fill. They don't miss a thing. They also don't do that annoying "change camera angle every 1/2 second to give it more energy" nonsense that seems to be so popular right now.
A new one's coming out next month, The Gorge. Should rock. I echo the sentiments behind Listener Supported and Central Park. I like the music on Folsom Field, but yeah, the DVD's kinda annoying.
ordered Central Park and The Gorge today should get Central park late next week and new one a week or so after it get released
Central Park arrived last night (gotta love amazon... they say it will take 11-15 days to arrive and it comes in 5) ... watched the first disc really loud (sorry to my neighbours) and will watched/listen to the other tonight amazing stuff i am really inspired now, going to start a campaign to get DMB to come and tour Australia... DMB 2 OZ could be the slogan...... looks like smeggysmeg.com needs an overall RM95 you wanna help????
There have been fans from Down Under clamoring for that for a while now. Check out www.nancies.org or www.antsmarching.org I wish I could help, however, I'm focusing my attention on getting one band member to the wedding. We're gonna put a line from a song on our invitations and send each of them one. It'll be fun to see if we any kind of response.
anything is possible: John Mayer Provides Prom Thrill Rocker John Mayer gave students in Pennsylvania a thrill, when he made a surprise appearance at their prom. Mayer's song Your Body is a Wonderland had become an unofficial theme for Pennsbury High School's senior class, prompting their president Bob Costa to invest two years of work into getting the star to perform for them. The three-song concert took place last Saturday thanks to Costa's lobbying and a book by Michael Bamberger. Intrigued by the school's big, annual prom parade, Bamberger wrote Wonderland about the a year in the life of the seniors and their quest to get him to perform there. Mayer's publicist found out about the students and the book, and arranged for the surprise show. The singer told the students, "Go be amazing people, and I'll see you again." And the story could soon hit the silver screen - the book's movie rights have already been optioned.
thanks will check it out, all in all just another reason for another OS trip at some stage good luck getting a response..... what line are you using???
