http://www.nba.com/coachfile/david_joerger/index.html?nav=page David Joerger enters his third season on the Grizzlies’ bench after recently coaching the Grizzlies summer league squad to a perfect 5-0 record in the 2009 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Before earning his first NBA assistant coaching job with the Grizzlies, Joerger gained fame as one of the most successful minor league basketball coaches in history, serving as head coach of the 2006-07 NBA D-League Champion Dakota Wizards. Afterwards, he became just the sixth head coach (15th coach overall) in D-League history to join the NBA coaching ranks. The title was the fifth he has won as a head coach, as he also has one International Basketball Association (IBA) title and three Continental Basketball Association (CBA) championships, along with two CBA Coach of the Year honors and a 232-117 (.665) head coaching record.
Joerger was mentioned by Feigen as one of the early candidates for the head coaching position. http://twitter.com/#!/kevinarnovitz/status/61068112807735296
I actually like that the Rockets heavily value head coaching success in the minor leagues. Some of the best NBA coaches have come from the minor leagues. Both Phil Jackson and George Karl came out of the CBA.
Dave Joerger sounds like he'd be a good hire. God knows, we need all the help we can get on the sidelines.
I agree... I think if you're going to hire McHale, you need to surround him with smart tactical guys. Joerger and Finch both seem like smart guys who have had a lot of success. Joerger's resume reads like the type of coach I thought Morey would hire as the head man.
Dave Joerger, from a grizzlies fan, is a bright, highly capable young defensive coach, that most if not all grizzlies fans want to keep. There was even a faction of our fan base who wanted to promote him to head coach and fire Hollins. At issue was the fact that Joerger was willing to give OJ Mayo a shot to play PG, or so it seems. Joerger is generally regarded as having Head coaching potential, and this, I assume, is why Morey wants the guy. I assume that Joerger impressed Morey in his interview for the rockets head coaching job, so Morey is looking to get a TWO for one deal with him. However the grizzlies aren't going to let him go that easily. If you guys get Joerger you guys will be #winning
I too thought Joerger would be a HC candidate. I would be thrilled to have him and Finch as our assistants. Then maybe we can get Cassell or Elie as an assistant as well? It's starting to become clear that Morey wanted a players coach as the HC, and he's going to fill the assistants with the technical gurus that will follow the analytical trends.
I think a Joerger hiring can put to rest the conspiracy about McHale being hired to warm the seat for Finch, who is not going to be the lead assistant and not the presumptive successor.
Sounds like the staff is coming together nicely. I like the idea of having to really good assistants to help with Xs and Os and develop players. McHale should be a good voice for the guys to relate to. He has been 'there' before. He can help our young bigs as well. Now we just need a couple of players to change the talent level on the roster. The draft could be interesting in a couple of weeks. I think a athletic, long SF is in our draft future.

It will definitely be about money. Why else would an assistant on a team that was in the second round of the playoffs want to leave to be an assistant on a team that was in the lottery?
He may want to come work for an organization on the cutting edge in its use of advanced analytics, something that apparently interests him. Kind of like how many young college graduates wanted to go work for Google or, more recently, Facebook. And the money.
Lot of Memphis fans wanted him as our HC over Hollins and at least to be HC in waiting. Great coach. Great guy.
