Just heard on 610 that there's a hot rumor in New York that this is close to a done deal.

What does Glendon Rusch post like? Have I seen his work on the ESPN messageboards?

I think he is the goaltender for the Rangers (New York Hockey team).
Do the Astros need a goaltender?

I like this trade. Rusch has been hot lately.

But, he's pitched much better then that lately. Of course, Ward has been playing well. Have the Stros been showcasing them ?

Good trade. May come back to haunt either team, but good trade overall. Mets need offense bad, and in an everyday role, Ward should hit some bombs big time.

Rusch, who I believe is left-handed, is also young and has been pitching real well of late. No Al Leiter, but if it is just Ward, than that is fair. If we give up Ward + [insert good prospect name here] then we are dumb.

well..if Mlicki doesn't work out in the rotation, we may need a Rusch to solidify the 5th spot. I give up a bench player for a starting pitcher every day of the week and twice on sunday.

If this gets done, it's because Ellie has the arm "injury". I don't think this gets done if they just send Ellie down to the minors.

I personally don't make this trade, unless i've got firm plans of signing moises.

Ditto. I'm guessing that this trade, if it gets done, means they're planning on paying what it takes to keep Moises.

One good thing is that Rusch is a young guy, so he doesn't carry much salary (saving cash to be used on Alou, or a replacement if he leaves).

This trade makes no sense from the Mets perspective unless they are really dying to have Ward on their team. They are not dumping an aging veteran with a high salary, but a 26 year old with a promising future and a left hander at that. I suspect they are going to ask for more than Ward and if that is the case, it doesn't make sense from the Astros perspective. They are not getting a proven veteran to help down the stretch. Granted, Rusch did a commendable job to help the Mets to the pennant last year and may help a team this year, but I just don't see him as the guy the Astros are looking to get.

Is he a highly-coveted lefty? (just being a left seems to make you highly coveted now)

I know this looks like crap, but he's had 5 str8 quality starts. One hitter against the Redsox, his last outing.

This one makes no sense. I do not see Seattle giving up their best starter for a 36 year old who can become a free agent.

Personally I would like to see the Astros go after Al Leiter rather than Rusch. This team already has 3 young arms in Miller, Oswalt, and Redding. Leiter would add some stability to our otherwise inconsistent staff. He has pitched well in two World Series and has years of experience. After missing out on Mike Hampton last fall, Leiter would be a good consolation prize. Both he and Rusch have pitched well recently, but Leiter simply has more experience, and could be our #1 guy down the stretch. He went 16-8 last year with 200K's and a 3.20 ERA.

The question is: will Drayton pay the $8 mill for this guy??
