until morey can start to hit 38% or better from the 3 point line, play some defense and keep the turnovers down I say keep his ass nailed to the bench.

No way he gets fired. This is on the players and lack of effort. MDA needs to make some adjustments to the game as well if this year's team isn't capable of hitting those 3 pointers. Move with out the ball get some good shots. Play some defense. Those things aren't happening.

people who are saying we were either gonna give CP 40 mil/yr deal or he was going to walk need to reevaluate the situation.

I don't see why Morey just freely OK's everything including giving CP the keys to the franchise and his own career. it was VERY clear to me that we need to make another very good move to nab another all-star caliber player to make sure we can get back to WCF this year.

why couldn't Morey sit with CP and negotiate a contract that is at least a little bit friendlier to the Rockets organization? in other words, was CP going to walk just because we weren't giving him the full max contract? if we gave him like 5 mil less per yr, would he still walk?

    and why? and where?

i'd agree with the notion that if CP was going to jump ship to join LAL and was threatening this in order to negotiate w/ Morey, then he'd have no choice but to give him that crazy contract. but if he wasn't this unreasonable, why couldn't Morey negotiate better w/ the player?

simple questions i'd like Morey to answer.

i don't want him fired, for the record. i think someone needs to get blamed, and i think it'll end up being DanToni. but the brunt of where we are is totally on Morey. i don't need him fired, i just need him to come back and do a better job, like i've seen him do before.

    Therein lies our dilemma.

Last year CP3 was giving it all and did well for us, beyond our expectations.

This year he has struggled really hard.

Can he really go back to being himself from last year? I think the whole team is worse than last year. So why bother dissecting everyone and everything?

Daryl's job should be on the line and not CP3's for now but his status should be re-evaluated come offseason.

Chris Paul and Brandon Knight can't play defense any more! They got pay $55 million each year.
Morey, please find players to replace them.
Rockets future 3 guard rotations are all offense.
Gordon is gone. Every owner can defeat Tilman on repeater tax.

I will never understand Morey's fascination with Carmelo. It's been inexplicable for years and his stint with the Rockets this season confirmed that fans had a better sense of Anthony's abilities than our GM.

MOREY broke one of the most important rules in life- don't fix what ain't broken. He should have spent the Mooney necessary too keep both Capella and Ariza.

It seems like Morey truly believed in the analytics behind Anthony and thought he could just replace Ariza with a defensive guy like Ennis and a Offensive guy like Melo... Failed to recognize the value that Ariza brought to the team. Ariza was the glue, no way to track that with analytics.

Is this a learning point for Morey or is this he dismisses as an anomely...

    You make solid points.

My counter argument to u though is what’s the worst that could have happened if we let CP3 walk but kept Luc and Ariza and not have obtained a marquee free agent PG? It’s hypothetical yes. But I think we merely go back to the year one experiment with Harden only at the point. Maybe rack up 50 to 55 wins.

But at least (and this is impt!) we are not hamstrung to move back up! Dry powder is so valuable. We would retain financial flexibility in-season (Jimmy B?). And better still! More flexibility going into the much anticipated 2019 off-season.

Philsophically - I just don’t agree with the short term “win now” mentality if it’s really a “win now at all costs” mentality. There is a cost to everything including opportunity cost.

    This is sooooo true.

And chemistry is such a delicate thing too! For all the positive commentary surrounding CP last year when he was adapting to this team. The key phrase here is CP adapting to this team. And not the other way around.

Giving him the max. Chasing Melo. Constant adjustments to our starting five. If this isn’t catering and adapting to him I don’t know what is.

There’s a causality to all this that started with the misguided belief that CP was that one guy that would put us over the top. And somehow extrapolating from last season and believing that CP would always keep us at the top.

LOL are you kidding me, have you seen Trev and Luc this year???? Nah

Lol what flexibility? Wed still be over the cap next year too, and its always hard for us to get free agents.

The minute we let Daryl walk is the minute this franchise goes to crap for a long time.

No it's Morey's fault his moreyball philosophy isn't productive anymore. Teams figured out how to guard us & they've also stole bits & pieces of it and are doing it BETTER than we are. He didn't add any 3pt shooters or defensive specialist. He did get Carmelo but foolishly waived him after only 10 games, now our bench is the worst in the NBA

The thing is, what PG would we have gotten? CP3 was the perfect PG next to Harden, because he was the traditional PG. In fact, he might be the only complete PG in the game today; every other PG is pass-first (i.e Lonzo) or score-first (Irving, Lillard, etc). I don't think any other PG has a game that can mimic CP3's game. So I don't believe we would be able to replicate last year's success.

If we let CP3 go and were more successful this year than we are now (let's say we're at 15-9 instead of 11-13), people would still be lamenting the fact that we didn't sign CP3 this offseason.

Only one team win it all, no winning title teams still make lots of money. Morey just costs lot of money for current owner for playing this kind of game.

I'll disagree with this, because it seems like every team suddenly figured us out. Against the well-coached teams (SA, BOS) or teams that defend well (UTAH, TOR), I'd agree. But it seems like we suck against every team - and I'm sure it can't just take a whole off-season to figure out an offense that won 65 games, last year.

This season has been a failure for the most part because our GM didn't properly get a decent supporting cast around a PG in his mid 30's on a max contract and a guard that will wear down if we keep asking him to play 40 mins per night. That's all on Morey and if you can't see that you are a true Homer

Well people make mistakes, it is absolutely ridiculous that people would call for a firing of a GM that brought us so much success, especially when he wasnt allowed to tank. He's one of the smartest gms in the league and it is typical knee jerk reaction to call for his firing. Its all this what have you done for me lately crap that makes people miss the bigger picture.

Bum Phillips got fired... he was an icon in Houston... highly successful - but couldnt seal the deal...

Until Morey learns better inter personnel skills... idk that he can pull it all together... last year was close... so were a couple AFC championship games...

Imo this season is lost due to Bzedlik/Melo/MDA/CP3/Harden dysfunction... thats something that was manageable - unlike something like freak injuries...
