"We really were this close to a deal with Pat Riley. Super close, this deadline. It was a deal like an hour before the deadline that came up..." Someone tell me how to be triggered by this. Is Tilman cheap, should we fire Morey, or should James Harden leave?
"Are there GMs out there that you know you can take advantage of?" "No, no. People ask that... the question I get a lot is 'will people not want to trade with you because of success with trades?' No, these are professionals who rose to their jobs for a reason. No one is afraid to make a trade. There isn't a rube out there." #OMG nobody will trade with Morey because he's too good "For players, it's really tough to get traded. So we try to be sensitive of that. The reality is it's almost impossible for us to be sensitive, it really is. We have so many tentative conversations that you don't want a player to worry about. They would be worried all the time. You only warn them when it's really imminent or done. The problem is almost always they leak from agents or teams before that, so you almost always end up with this really awkward time where the player hears not from the team, and it's really frustrating, but the veteran guys get used to it." #OMG players are just assets and Morey's spreadsheets don't see the personal side #OMG DO SOMETHING MOREY "When you see all these guys talking about where they want to go or demanding trades, do you feel an extra pressure to make James happy?" "Yeah, I've always felt that pressure. He's going to go down as one of the top players of all time. I feel like it's my responsibility to deliver him a championship. We haven't yet, we got very close last year, we feel like we're well positioned this year... even though we've lots of injuries.. we're going to be healthy out of the all-star break. I want to win it for him... and for Chris, frankly. This is the time. Every guy on our team has pretty much accomplished everything except the title. Both Chris and James will be in the hall of fame, the last thing is just to win a title." #OMG does Morey even understand that we should be ALL IN? We should be paying luxury tax for Nik Stauskas
Will people not want to trade with you because you've had success? No. These are very professional people who rose to their job for a reason. No one is afraid to trade with anyone. Sorry @DreamShook, debunked by Morey.
Miami deal was possibly for Ellington Love the bit about Shane Battier being upset about “who he was traded for”
Kristine is really good. Engaging, asks intelligent questions, and has great interview etiquette. She is > Colin.
Weird how this is the thing you guys will believe. Keep that same energy when Morey tells you Tilman isn't deliberately trying to get under the lux tax. The NBA never cooperates with the Rockets. Morey may think it's true no one is afraid to trade with anyone else, but that could very well be a one-sided belief since he has integrity. Furthermore, Kristine Leahy is a breath-taking white woman.
Maybe, he is right. However, Riley probably didn't think it was that close. His demands were more than what Houston was willing to give up for Ellington.
As if ellington is any better than shumpert lol... Would have just been the same type of salary and picks dump for a bad player on an expiring contract
I don’t think Morey is being blackballed, but if he was, he’d never admit it. Fair or not, if you aren’t able to get deals done, your value as a GM is hindered significantly. Worst case, Daryl would make a killer CPA (see 2019 trade deadline)
