I included the embed code for the audio player, but it doesn't appear to be working...at least in my browser. Sorry.
The new website doesnt allow me to play podcast off my phone any more. Not good for me since im never in front of a computer to long.
Just a few things I wanted to state that Morey said. They have been involved in trade discussions with teams that are not in the playoffs. Mainly draft positioning. They're currently work on draft and looking towards July 1st.
I bet he is looking to trade up, since he is talking only to non-playoff teams. If he were to move down in a deal with a lottery team, the highest pick that he could would be trading the 14th for the 31st pick.
Thanks for posting the link, it was a nice listen. Some points off the top of my head: -Morey said we could move up, move down, move out, or stay put in the draft -the Rockets are looking at free agency/S&T for a big man first, then draft perhaps second -it sounded like we are probably going to take the best player available in the draft, considering that whoever it is, they probably won't be contributing much in their first couple of years. He talked a little bit about RGV, the draft, and the playoffs.
several non-playoff teams hold some low picks this draft: minnesota 14th & 23rd picks memphis 25th & 28th picks nj 27th wizards 30th
With the limited number of available roster spots for next year's Rockets team, I doubt that Morey is going to want to move down to acquire multiple picks in THIS year's draft. While I could possibly see the acquisition of an early second round pick (either to take an international prospect or as a Budinger-like "I can't believe he fell this far!" move), I just don't see the appeal in acquiring low first rounders. More likely that he's trying to put together a package to trade up. It will be interesting to see, if Marc Stein is right about the Raptors being interested in Jordan Hill, whether Morey tries to keep Hill OUT of any package to move up in the draft, hoping instead to retain Hill for use in a Bosh sign-and-trade.
Me? I keep wondering why they don't focus on upgrading the SF position. I think Yao/Scola/Hill/Hayes or Jeffries is pretty decent, or will be when Hill has another year under his belt.
I can't see Morey using Hill to move up either. The Rockets were smart in playing Hill during the last 20 something games of the season. It gave chance for the other GM's to see how he plays. Dallas was smart last night as well letting Beaubois play. He gave them some solid minutes and showed how he was able to get into the paint. Cuban will want to use him as trade bait along with Dampier's contract.
Did they change the whole 610 website? That really sucks. I can't download the podcast. I can't even find a place/link/button to play or download it. Tried 4 different browsers, even looked at the "page source", and can't find a link. Anyone else have this problem? This is what I see: http://img160.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=34373_MWSnap359_122_42lo.jpg
Based on what Morey said. couple of things i think it could happen. we are drafting the best gem player in the draft, it could mean up, down. Since we always find them either way. We may be packaging whom ever we drafted and then package for S&T. FA probably means MIL backup type of players.
The fact that Morey is working on trades to either move up or move down means that he has his eye on one of two people but if he knows they are going to get taken by another team then he might want to trade down to get someone out of the second round that he knows will still be there. Talking with the other teams about trades is a good way to find out who they are working out and who they are looking to draft. Also on the subject of playing Beaubois last night to increase his trade value??? are you kidding. During an elimination game in the playoffs, you really think that they were focusing on trade stock?? Beaubois gives them something they dont have on offense... he can attack the basket and free up everyone else which is basically a team of jumpshooters. No way the Mavs would have been able to make it a close game without him.
Of course they would. Their coach never used him during the whole playoffs. That was perfect timing for them since everything else wasn't working for them.
