looks like it wouldn't hurt for him to hit the gym during his lunch break. He came in 32 years old, long and skinny.
I think his comments on why they found Landry appealing were interesting. He basically thought that because of his acl injury, Landry's stock had dropped too far so he was a good buy at the price. In this draft, players who have seen their stock plummet for one reason or another are Bill Walker, Roy Hibbert and Nicolas Batum. Anybody else fit that description?
Another interesting point was when he said the 25th pick was a 4 year deal and someone who can contribute by year 2 or 3. It sounds like they're open to adding a project with their first rounder. I think in each draft there are a whole lot more C's who are labelled as projects more so than any other position.
I'm telling you guys. Roy Hibbert will be a great pickup as a project player who can learn from mutombo in year 1, let him retire and slide into yaos primary backup in years 2-3. Though he disappeared in the NCAA tourney, he can be out of "limelight" and work on his game, ride the pine, and take Loren Woods spot on the roster. But if CDR is there, sure take him too.
That's what transplanting a normal lifestyle into Houston will do to ya. Oil refinery pollution + heat and humidity + sprawl-necessitating automobiles + best food in the world = weight gain.
sounds like morey's plan is to take the best player left, regardless of position, even if he's a project. someone always slips. just wait to see who it is this year.
Agreed. I moved to Barcelona, Spain for 4 months once and lost twenty pounds while I was there. The only real difference in my lifestyle was that I did not own a car there and walked/took the metro to all of my destinations. Tanning beds are never a good idea. Ever. In fact, I object to their very existence.
Rudy T had a similar philosophy, drafting guys who had been well-regarded but saw his stock slip near draft time.
Hibbert is the guy I would take. The Rox need to really keep an eye on Yao's health. I would draft Hibbert and let him get 18 mins behind yao and see how he responds. If yao continues to have injuries and foot problems with Hibbert in the wings, in 2 yrs LBJ for Yao could be the move to make.
Makes sense. You normally have to draft star players, but for complimentary players, you can always get help by trading or free agency.
Morey has stated this position numerous times on local radio. He said it a 4 year deal, because first round picks get 4 year deals once their options are picked up for the 3rd and 4th years. Typically, first round picks get the entire 4 years, not to mention 120% of the rookie scale contract. The NBA allows for 80-120% of the rookie scale contract. Standard practice is to give the player 120%.
