I heard most of the interview with John and Lance on my drive to work this morning. It had some funny moments. <div> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" width="210" height="25" id="mp3playerdarksmallv3" align="middle"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.podbean.com/podcast-audio-video-blog-player/mp3playerdarksmallv3.swf?audioPath=http://thegame.podbean.com/medias/play/aHR0cDovL21lZGlhMi5wb2RiZWFuLmNvbS81ODk4Mi91L0pMLURhcnlsTW9yZXktMy0xMC0wOS5tcDM/JL-DarylMorey-3-10-09.mp3&autoStart=no" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <embed src="http://www.podbean.com/podcast-audio-video-blog-player/mp3playerdarksmallv3.swf?audioPath=http://thegame.podbean.com/medias/play/aHR0cDovL21lZGlhMi5wb2RiZWFuLmNvbS81ODk4Mi91L0pMLURhcnlsTW9yZXktMy0xMC0wOS5tcDM/JL-DarylMorey-3-10-09.mp3&autoStart=no" quality="high" width="210" height="25" name="mp3playerdarksmallv3" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></embed> </object> <br /><a style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-weight: normal; padding-left: 41px; color: #2DA274; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: none;" href="http://www.podbean.com">Powered by Podbean.com</a> </div>
That was a really well done interview by the 1560 guys. I would have liked them to ask him about his sports conference that he held over the weekend. But I guess the topic of interest for the listeners is mostly the Rockets.
'We are playing better than during the winning streak' 'Yao is playing his best basketball since I have been here' Are you kidding me?
If anyone can call in to a Morey interview at some point, can they ask him what metrics he is using to demonstrate that Yao is playing better now than ever? Laypeople like me look at his PER and get disappointed, but I'm sure he's defending better than he ever has. I'm not sure, however, if that has much to do with his change in play or the refs adaptation towards calling him more fairly (ie no auto-foul when he just jumps up and down, or doesn't even jump at all and has people run into him instead).
Hes right. Look further than 22 wins and Yao's stats. Yao is finally getting position in the post and he's using a wide variety of moves, he's not forcing it anymore, he's seeing how deep he's in the post and using the correct move from there. He's also averaging almost 3 blocks a game in the last month. He's passing well, etc. He's skills are the best thye have ever been and he's showing, his stats just dont reflect it because some of them went down or stayed the same due to the added help he's getting. As for the team, during the streak a lot of those teams were sub .500, or just not playoff teams. We never realy got challenged either. Now we're beating the good teams and pulling out those close games. During the streak there was also some hot shooting, wide open, guy in your face, they were hittting most of them, now they are making shots because they're working to get high quality shots, moving the ball. They are also all over the court, sometimes winning by superb paint play, other times they shoot outside really well, then they just run and gun, sometimes it's a mixturem etc.
Yao is playing his best, because this is officially his team now, and he has confidence in his teammates.
I am not saying Yao is playing bad. But there is NO way he is playing his best basketball in 3 years, NO FREAKING WAY. Of course, his defense improved a LOT. I love his defense, he is blocking a lot of shots and he finally uses his height. But he isn't what he was at the beggining of 2006/07. NO WAY. As for the team playing well... I don't care how many games we win in the season. It all matters in the playoffs. That's all.
just for good measure the interview started because a discussion came up about extending ron morey said that the agent wants to wait until after the season is over john and lance were speaking as if 3 years was going to be the minimum length that the agent would ask for, and atleast 10 mil a year what would be a reasonable contract to offer ron and not over pay at first thought i would say 3 yrs 27 mil
Artest will be getting a $61 Million contract over 5 years that will look something like this: Year 1: $10,000,000 Year 2: $11,100,000 Year 3: $12,100,000 Year 4: $13,310,000 Year 5: $14,641,000
we are playing better than what we did during that 22 winning streak w/o a doubt. Is Yao playing this best right now since morey has been here? Arguable
