Anyone else go last ngiht? It was kind of a last minute thing for me. I enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. Was never a huge fan of the band. The only album I have is just the self-titled one. But the guy can put on a show. Dimmu Borgir opened and they were loud as hell, but pretty entertaining. All in all, well worth the cash. I know it isnt Nickelback, which this board seems to favor, but I know there are some metal fans in here, so just thought I would share.
went to kings of leon at verizon and left completely disappointed with everything minus the scenery. last KOL show i pay to see, as they're clearly playing for the $$$$ and their new sound and look show it... you know one of your favorite bands done sold out when throngs of girls start singing along to every new song they play while playing just 1 song off their debut album.
Haven't seen them since the Danzig 4p tour, which would be around '94 or so maybe. If he ever got the original band back together I'd probably be there. A couple of years ago he reunited w/the Misfits and they played a Misfits set then a Danzig set I believe.
I had a friend selling merch at the show so I got to go free. Danzig was pretty amusing, he's a squat fellow. I'm a metalhead but "Blackest of the Black!!!!" isn't my cup of tea. Danzig's music sounds like dated hard rock, but they played well despite a bit of feedback from the microphone. I also caught Dimmu Borgir which was typically hilarious black metal. Hard to take them too seriously, but they rocked and sounded modern. This was my first show at the House of Blues and it's an ok joint. The sound system is absolutely not designed to handle heavy metal. It wasn't very loud at all and sounded muddy at times. Danzig complained a good bit about the monitors thoughout the set, but he's known as a bit of a prima donna regarding such things. They did feed back, however. I imagine the PA is fine for an act like Blues Traveler, though. The decor is lame and the alcohol prices are Toyota Center-level insane. There was a true horde of security and I was asked to stop texting during the show and to put my cell phone away. It didn't matter when I showed the guy my all-access pass. Their no-camera policy somehow extended to all cell phone usage inside the venue, which was ridiculous. Although their policies were ludicrous, the staff was friendly. A lot is riding on the Pavilions as a whole so they weren't shy about being in charge. However, the stage is large and versatile and the lighting system was absolutely fantastic. Once the techs get more practice with the lights it's going to be gorgeous. The layout of the place is pretty good with few obstructions. I was ambivalent about becoming the last place on Earth to receive a HOB and my suspicions were confirmed by the crappy sound system. But all in all, it's nice to have another place in town to catch a concert, particularly downtown. A lot of acts almost exclusively tour HOBs so it'll be nice to get that traffic in town to help cement Houston as a touring destination.
True dat. ****ty recordings, sloppy guitar playing, and spooky Elvis. That's the Misfits. Also, me riding a skateboard (wearing Limpies® and hoping I don't get a spontaneous boner while wearing them), and doing kick-flips and shove-its in front of the ladies, well, that's when I had the Misfits on my Walkman®.
What the heck is this about? Did I miss a NickelBack thread? I used to listen to the Misfits back in my skate days. Anyways, I'm going to the BB King concert in November at the HOB. I've never been there before.
i was at KOL last night at verizon too and i'll be at HOB friday for willie nelson. interesting to hear about the sound system and atmosphere.
