I was totally shocked to read this! Never liked him much. I think he underachieved as a player, rode Larry Bird's coattails and was a smart aleck punk! I had a small personal experience with Ainge once. The Suns were in town to play the Rockets. I had my young nephew visiting from out of state, and we were walking around the top floor of the Galleria. It was not crowded at all, and we saw Danny Ainge - I told my nephew "Look that is Danny Ainge!" The guy barely looked and kept on walking. As I said, I never liked him much anyway but it was still impressive to see an NBA player. After that, I really couldn't stand him. This was a small thing and I'm sure he might be a nice guy - says he is retiring for his family (seems to be the standard Phoenix coach excuse). But these guys should realize that non-celebrities are still people too.
In Washington DC's metro someone confused me for Danny Ainge and called out, "Mr. Ainge, can I have your autograph?" I then punched him out. True story except for the punching out part.
