Wow. The NBDL called, and said don't get rid of that apartment in Austin just yet. I bleed orange, and even I think this guy is completely overrated.
the same. how can he be thinking this poorly? he has to hear that he's not gonna get picked in the 1st..
Gibson needs to stay, he isn't ready for the NBA, and this is coming from a Gibson fan. If true, he could be a steal in the 2nd round if he lasts that long.
Because next year's draft is going to be so loaded that this year's crappy draft is his only shot to get picked in the 1st round.
I think it's a matter of cutting his losses. He doesn't project to anything but a PG in the NBA. The longer he stays at Texas, the more his passing and playmaking abilities, or lack thereof, will get exposed. Staying another season might cause Gibson to fall out of the 1st Round completely.
Daniel Gibson will be a good player in the NBA. He has good handles and makes pretty good decisions with the ball. He is a lockdown defender at the point. He really needs to work on his shooting. IMO shooting is the one thing that can be improved upon the most just through working on it. This is the reason I don't like Reddick as a pick early, his only real tallent is the one tallent that can be created with work. You can't create Gibson's athletic ability, which is the reason he is a lockdown defender (something Reddick will never be).
Well, he might not hire an agent, then this draft would just be a reality check. But he probably could improve his chances of making a living in the NBDL or even making a quarter million or so in Europe than staying at UT as an undersized SG. Texas will have 2 damn good PG's next year.
Wow, did we watch the same player? Gibson shot just under 40% from 3 his freshman year, and 38% his sophomore year. Shooting wasn't his problem. The fact is, he averaged right around 3 assists on a Longhorn team stacked with offensive talent. He's not a good decision maker, and his handles are suspect - the Horns struggled mightily against the press. I would say he regressed this year. Right now, he's a good defender and a good shooter. I think he can have a niche off the bench in the NBA like a Tony Delk type, but unless he becomes a significantly better playmaker/ball handler, he projects to the bench.
This year, more than ever, due to it being a "bump" year due to the age limt, is a year when players willing to gamble woudl be advised to declare for the draft, not hire an agent, then head back to college if things don't look like they're goint there way. it seems very few players take advantage of this though.
you pretty much summed up what i was going to say. he simply isn't ready to be an nba player. he regressed A LOT from last year, and went from being a lottery pick to a 2nd rounder. that just doesn't happen for no reason at all. gibson is much better served going back to texas and proving that he can handle the offense as a PG for a whole season and then get the GUARANTEED money of a first rounder.
You have to remember that Gibson didn't play PG most of the time for us last season, Paulino did. The fact is that this kid can shoot the ball and he is a good defender. I don't want to sound like a UT-homer but I would spend a 2nd Rounder on him for sure. Teams have spent #1 overall picks based solely on potential, Gibson has shown he has skills and that he has potential. I still think he should go back for another year, but in all honesty, the kid could be a steal in the 2nd Round.
Gibson needa another year or 2, even Aldridge could use another year. Neither one of them stood out in the college game, and now they are expected to be better pros? Wow !! Aldridge works hard, but I don't see the passion, Gibson is just an ok player. PJ Tucker was the best player on the Horns....and he is too short. DD
2005-06 stats: 13 pts, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 3 rebounds Thats all it takes to get drafted in the NBA as a point guard????? i'm a huge horns fan, but I am afraid that d-gibs believes the hype too much...
