We won't get to see Yao play again on TV unless team China does alot of advancing, and you don't advance unless you win, and you don't win unless you give your best player (who is 7'6) the frikkin ball. Ya hear that Wang Fei??!! Never mind, Ming is on his way to Houston, out of the depressing reach of his frikkin horrible coach.
Personally, I'd rather he be done sooner. The sooner he's done, the less chance he has of getting hurt and getting worn down. Bring on training camp.
Man Jeff, I took that out of my post because I didnt want people calling a troll for mentioning Yao getting hurt. I was going to say" Yao better not get hurt playing in a game where he's not even being used properly. On top of that, he still has the Asian Games to go.
I don't know when it starts, but I think the championship game is on October 14. I think someone was saying its almost a sure thing China advances that far. I remember that because that's the day before the preseason game against the Spurs. That's all I know.
I don't see how he can possibly avoid being mentally worn out by the time he finally reaches Rockets camp. I hope I'm wrong. os
I hope you're wrong too. I know I'm going to get bashed for this but, what if the Rockets let him sit out most of the preseason and just let him practice with the team. Then he plays the last preseason game, then on with the season. I think a break would be good for Yao.
I don't know how taxing the Asian games will be, but as long as he doesn't get hurt hopefully it will help his conditioning. I'm more worried about him learning how to drive in Houston than potential burnout. He's a gym-rat who plays basketball year- round and all NBA new-comers hit the wall. After watching him play I think Rockets scrimmages are going to be more fun than he's had his whole life. The Rockets and the City of Houston (read HPD traffic cops) will take care of the guy. We really don't need him to do that much to drastically improve the team.
The best information I was able to find is that the 14th Asian Games will be in Pusan, S. Korea from Sept. 28th until Oct. 14th. My understanding is that China has taken first place in 11 of the preceeding 13 games with two 3rd place finishes. http://www.abc-basketball.com/calendar/2002/index.html
