Is there a worser sports radio show in North America?

I am one of the guys who have sports radio 610 dial permanently set on my car radio and I have tried to telorate them during my drive home. The worst thing is that there is not alternative sports radio station I can turn to in time of despair.

Can Dan Patrick and his eternally dumb side-kick Ron Dibble show some maturity for once? Talking about Dibble, is there a dumber side-kick on earth? Where is the intelligence and nuance? Where is the sensitivity and wit? Where is even the basic sports knowledge? I once thought that the Jim Rome repulsed me atimes but Dan Patrick show makes me yearn lurstfully for the "jungle" and her "clones" - relative deprivation indeed.

What topped it off for me today was the puerility and stupidity with which Dan Patrick and Ron Dibble handled themselves when they were playing the Star Spangled rendition by Jose Lima in today Dodgers v Cubs game. I believe that there is a line we have to draw in certain situations. Making home run sounds and laughing foolishly during the rendition was to me simply stupid and in poor taste.

Please how can I "bang my monkey" and get this show off the Houston area air? Give me something else.....Kornheiser, Matt, Danny Vera, two-hour musical interlude....whatever. Get them out of Houston....period.

    Sad. :(

I have never liked that show. They constantly laugh at each others lame jokes and when they're done laughing, one of them will say "hey" (or whatever) and the laughter starts again.

Why do they always play a bit from one of their previous shows and then laugh about it for ten minutes?

    Yes... Jim Rome.

    Kornheiser is retired.

Dan Patrick is acceptable. I enjoy it.

Not to fond of the DP Show. But its not the worst.

One of the best moments ever was on his show.

Tonya Harding: "I'm not going to make a skeptical out of my boxing career".

Tonya Harding: "Hold on a sec, Paul wants to talk to you".

By "permanently set" do you mean the tuning knob fell off or your radio is broke so you can't change the station?

The difference between the Dan Patrick show and Jim Rome show to me is that Rome at least on occassion talks sports. Foreign concept, I know. Patrick's show consists of innane "questions of the day" and a million lame inside jokes that evidently everyone in his studio find hilarious. I could count the number of minutes in his show in which topical sports issues are discussed on one hand, and I might have a few fingers left over.

I regularly kick Dan Patrick's ratings ass in the puny little markets my radio show is heard on. I've listened to his show to find out what not to do, if you ask me. He seems way too smug for my tastes. I try to tread a line between being entertaining and informative, but I lapsed into entertainment when I had Diana DeGarmo call my show. She's a sweet girl and actually knows her sports. When I jokingly asked her what she thought was the Braves' worst offseason move, she replied "Getting rid of Javy!"

I can't stand the Dan Patrick show. I could write a book about how horrible it is, but it would take two books. Rome is no-where near as good as it used to be. He has too many interviews and most of the time it's with guys no one cares about or has even heard of.

DP's radio show is horrible. I hate them. On SC, Dan is okay.

Hell, even Dibble is okay when he's not on that show.

But on the radio show ...

DP will make the lamest jokes, usually ****ty puns or whatever comes to mind that he thinks is witty. Even if it's not funny AT ALL, Dibble and the asskissers will start laughing on cue, like DP has his finger on the applause button or something. And they repeat themselves, ad nauseum, and verbatim. I understand you have to repeat stuff, but give it a little twist at least, gd. DP is a dork, and the rest are tools.

    the end.

Almost forgot, whenever Dan starts to get worked up about some argument, he really sounds like a whiney b****. His voice goes on those high, low patterns while he drags out his ****ing vowels.

What's the alternative? More tired local chat? It's fine just the way it is.

i'm usually able to listen to the 2pm hour. I think it's great... usually Dan is right on the money with most of his takes. The only people i haven't really heard any criticism about on this board are Rich and Charlie.

As it was mentioned earlier, how can you not love the Tonya/Paul Brown phone call. One of the funniest things i've heard on the radio.

    Exactly!!!

Somehow it seems to me that the Radio station managers forget that there are fans out there who just want to listen to sports radio in the simplest of forms. I cannot understand how they can be so unintelligent, infantile, repulsive and insensitive.

Maybe getting XM radio will be the answer afterall but I am not sure it will get better. The unfortunate thing about the sports radio market in this area is that there is not competition, so we are forced to tune to SR 610.

I have have tried on numerous occassions to tolerate and deal with the DP show but after today I just gave up and I will now have to settle for something else between 2 and 4pm local time from now onwards. Sad.

I hate the DP show too, but I do have to admit -- the Tonya Harding thing was CLASSIC!! That was just fantastic. Every once in a while the show is decent, but on the whole I think it sucks. But it's better than having Papa Joe Chevalier . . .

    Heh, I'm a SR610 w****.

I went a 24 hour period once listening the station. Started at 5am once (one day when I stayed home and didn't do **** all day)

Caught 30 minutes of Mike and Mike before John and Lance came on, then Vandy, then Rome, Patrick, Rich and Charlie, Jackson, Gamenight, All Night, then Mike and Mike, then John/Lance again. Heh

At least I think that was the order...:p

Anyway, I like the different styles from all shows. Matt Jackson seems like a less "pissed off at the world" Jim Rome, John/Lance and Rich/Charlie are interchangable, although I tend to agree more with John/Lance, or maybe it's I just don't put up enough of a fight int he morning.
Vandemeer is excellent, probably my fav out of the whole 24 hour block on M-W.

Someone needs to get rid of those fishing shows on thursday and fridays :(

Matt Jackson is another one of my top shows though, maybe it's the whole being solo thing. And Matt ripping on Boston/Rob Costas whenever he gets a chance is pretty funny. Marc has Air Bull every thursday. Marc is THE VOICE of the Houston Texans, and he keeps me entertained every home game when I'm standing at the top of the 100 level listening to the game while I'm helping someone find their seats. Props to the Texans for broadcasting the PbP in the stadium.

Anyway, you guys complain too much. You could always listen to Sunny 99.1 ;)

    John and lance
    and
    Rich and Charlie

    Are TRULY interchangable

The hate everything that is not L'astros
and only mildly tolerate the Texans
[they come off like they only do Texans stuff because they
    have too]
The seem to TRULY hate basketball . . . esp the Rockets
and talk about it when forced
and it is usually to diss Houston in general

I get more pissed listening to them than anything
I don't have the time to sit on hold 30 minutes
to curse them out . . .and they generally on send
out those form emails. [the afternoon guys . . charlie i think
    does add some commentary]
