how about we watch the preseason and see who does better in this system? based on what we've seen in the past, i'd go for Orlovsky. But could def. be different here
I still think Orlovsky hasn't shown everything he has...which is why I'd rather see him as the backup. If Schaub goes down and Orlovsky comes in, there's a tiiiiny shot the season isn't done..
This offense is going to be a well oiled machine this year, so I think even if Schaub misses time we'll manage (as long as it's not a season ending type injury). I think either would do fine, but Orlovsky is probably better for continuity purposes. But whoever wins the spot in preseason is fine with me.
I heard Dan O. has a cannon for an arm but I guess so did David...GRRRR Id say Dan O. would be the safer choice but from what I've seen of Grossman when he is on he can really be good but when he is off...hide the wife and kids lol...
Have you seen "Dan O." with his performance last year? He was one of the biggest reasons the Lions went 0-16 besides that horrible defense. I know you saw that Lions/Vikes game where he stepped out of bounds in the end zone! What a dope.
Are you serious? The out of bounds play aside (it was a stupid mistake and easy to make fun of, but doesn't mean he's a terrible QB), his play was as good as could be expected from a team with perhaps the worst defense in NFL history and an interior offensive line that was in shambles. It's amazing he did as well as he did considering they would've had to throw the ball the whole game and score 40+ points to win.
Honestly, NFL is my 3rd sport so all i've heard about him was what Lance Z and Adam Wexler said when he got signed but I did catch the lowlight of that Minnesota game and yea pretty embarrasing moment still id say that he looked ok vs us when they came back on the Texans. Grossman I've seen alot more and he is really hit or miss and I have to imagine Kubiak saw something he could work with in Dan or wouldn't have signed him for such a big contract for a backup. Sat should be pretty interesting even after the starters leave to see who looks better.
Very. All the guy had to do was throw it up somewhere in the vicinity of Calvin Johnson (the best player on that team) and it would've been a for sure catch and TD if he had his man beat. That guys a beast. I'm pretty sure if you pull up any highlights (loosly said) on the Lions last season and the majority will be Orlovsky to Johnson for a chunk of huge yards or for a TD. I agree that he has a cannon but he is nothing more than a back up possible 3rd string. BTW Rex had a cannon too with the best D in the league at one time & he still failed to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Chi town. So that means nothing without accuracy and smarts.
God, seriously? They guy makes ONE boneheaded play in an entire season of boneheaded plays, and all of a sudden he becomes one of the BIGGEST reasons why the team goes 0-16? Orlovsky had nothing to do with the Lions porous pass defense, or complete lack of pass rush. He also had nothing to with the crappy play-calling and anemic running game that the Lions demonstrated. Some of you people need to stop letting ESPN make all your decisions for you and actually come up with a judgment based on your OBSERVATIONS. From what I saw in Dan O., he was a solid pocket QB who had good vision, and an excellent work ethic....just not the quickest release. A year or two behind a hard working athlete like Schaub, and I think Dan O. will be a really solid option at quarterback for any team. In fact, I would love it if the Texans groomed him for the next couple of years, and then traded him for a mid-high draft pick, a la Sage.
I'd absolutely say Orlovsky. Grossman has been horrible his entire career, and had the benefit of being the full time starter for a year and a half. He stunk because he didn't give a professional effort - even admitting he didn't always prep for defenses. Orlovsky got thrown into the fire last year and was only at the helm for 8 of those 16 losses. 3 of those games (@Min, @Hou, @Ind) he was very good. He was good against Was. His stinkbombs were his first week on the job (Chi) and the rout against the Saints. Despite all that, he never had more than two picks in any game. In my opinion, his failures were tied to a crummy line and weak running game. No one succeeds behind a line that surrenders over 50 sacks in a year and is also the #30 rushing attack in the league. Point - Orlovsky never stood a chance. Rex failed all on his own and made David Carr look like a focused vet.
If Kubiak can turn Sage into a "passable" NFL starter, he should be able to make Sex Cannon ... League MVP as a backup.
Um, before you go on your little rant about ESPN making decisions for me read my more recent post. Thanks!
This is the same guy who, even today, thinks a trade giving up complete scrubs like Willy Taveras, Jason Hirsh and Taylor Buchholz was the "worst in the history of the Astros franchise." I don't say that to sidetrack this thread, but rather as useful background. Don't waste your energy.
The guy who isn't Rex Grossman. Seriously, he was awful in Chicago. At least Orlavsky can still grow a bit and wasn't the worst player on the field for his team like Sexy Rexy was. I'm not even a Bears fan and it was painful for me to watch him throw all those bad passes.
