12.5 Points, 5 Assists, 2.5 Rebs I know he is only 6'0, 190 lbs, but he is young and pretty damn quick! We are loaded at the guard spot, but a few trades could clear the way for a Dickau/James combo. I know I might get murdered for mentioning this, but its just a thought.....Im not saying it NEEDS to happen.
This would be a trade...but I'd do it to infuse some youth in our aging backcourt. Dan Dickau has a PG's mentality and is really improving ala Luke Ridnour, who if he keeps playing like he has against San Antonio, will not be going anywhere.
I know he lit our ass up! I think Dallas would like to have that deal back as Armstrong hasn't done jack for them I have heard some folks (not me) compare him to a young Nash in style of play.
Dallas would DEFINITELY like to have him back. He had a pretty damn good year....Dickau>>>>>>>>>>Armstrong!
He is young and learning, he did pretty good on a very bad team. Anybody that can make an entry pass and is cheap gets my vote as long as he doesn't run to the other end of the court on defense.
I agree. Anyone who can penetrate and make the Hornets look good in any game against any team would do wonders for our team. The only one who looks to pass when penetrating is T-Mac and Barry but Barry doesn't get into the lane often enough. We need that breakdown in the defense to take some burden off mcGrady and actually make him the beneficiary of some open shots and slams. Can you imagine a Dan/T-Mac pick and roll and a few more posterizations on the finish?
You perfer a 31 year old shoot first undersized bong smoking Jailblazer to a 26 year old pass first averaged 5 assists on a crap team true point gaurd? If so then I think your playing NBA live a bit too much. Real Basketball doesnt opperate like Franchise Fantasy Draft mode.
Dont' fantasize. A guy who did well on a bad team is precisely the type you SHOULdn't fall in love with. He jacked up a lot of shots, he tired out, and his passing wasn't anything spectacular. For a point (guard), he had the ball in his hands a LOT--which is why he got his assists. He's a streaky but still solid shooter, and he can penetrate. His defense is atrocious, and his passing is average.
Dear lord, can you say something factual for once? -First we're paying Mutombo "Shaq money". Nope. -Then playing behind Avery Johnson, the 4 year incumbent starter who won a ring and averaged 13-9 a couple years is some sort of slight to Antonio Daniels and he's only being talked about because he had a good game, despite the fact ESPN, Fox Sports, Mark Berman, and the Chronicle have all linked him to the Rockets in the last year or so . Oops. -Then a career 3/1 AST/TO ratio is apparently disproportianately high in turnovers at times. Right. -Then Shawn Kemp "negotiated his salary down." Nope. Dickau is a free agent. Period. I think Dickau's upside would be this year's Jason Terry- Terry had similar percentages to this year's Dickau in Atlanta. Dickau isn't the purest of PGs, but he can handle the ball, penetrate, and is lights out on the open jumper. He doesn't play much defense, but can create turnovers and is quick. I think wing athleticism and a power forward are bigger priorities, and think Dickau will want a pretty guaranteed starting job, which we can't give him.
with all this talk about Pure point guards, can anyone list the top 5 - 10 point guards that epitomzie a PURE point guard?
I like his shooting range and ability, he's a nice player, but I don't think he will fit in well here. I think he'd be like Matt Maloney. Maybe even less. He'd have some moments, but his weakness will come out at the wrong time and against superior players.
I thought you needed a real point guard? He had some good games while he was here (Dallas) but all he does is score -- he's not a good passer and is probably the worst defender you'll ever see. If you think he's an upgrade over Sura, you're wrong.
all this talk? we haven't really been talking about it at all in here, except 1 post. this team doesn't need a "pure" point. It needs one that is (in order of preference I think): general court intelligence and awareness, a good ballhandler, a good defender, a solid passer, a decent spot up shooter, a decent ability to get to the hole once in a while. I know we can't get all of those...but the more the better. Dickau is so-so on the court intelligence/awareness (he's not always aware of all his teammates from what i've seen), and horrid as a defender, and a mediocre passer at best. That's 3 of the top 4 on my list, which is why I don't like him and why I'd be fine with Sura over him.
kaleidosky, i meant in general (not specific to this thread). ppl always seem to want that Pure point guard but never seem to give names. who is that Pure point guard that everyone wants?
Why that defensive wizard himself..........Steve Nash!! Does anyone not think if he were here he would play better defense? Back to reality! From what i have seen, players learn defense quickly when they play for JVG, that much we know so drop most of the negatives against their defensive ability as you know that will improve from the JVG factor. IMO i see us needing a penetrator first to relieve that burden from T-Mac. Is Dickau that guy? Who knows? Our great defenders like Sura didn't keep DD in front of him and he did create easy shots for bad players. I don't buy the argument that he doesn't have court awareness. Neither did Me-Mac in Orlando! When you pass to bad players, your reluctancy to share grows by the game. Ask ME-Mac, now T-Mac how much he cringed when he saw Bowen on the right wing of the break in the playoffs and after all the fumbles out of bounds how many times he stopped looking!! The argument he had the ball in his hands too much is a little bogus too. Who was he supposed to share those duties with? Boki? I want to see the youngest, best penetrator with the best open shot available either in trade, free agency, or draft. Dickau seems to be low risk, high potential reward.
