from the dailynews: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/col/story/165207p-144609c.html -- Dan Aykroyd: So bipartisan it's funny When it comes to finding a middle way in politics, no one is more bizarrely bipartisan than Dan Aykroyd. How many people do you know who support both President Bush and Sen. Hillary Clinton? "Personally, I know the President, I know his wife and his father," the actor was telling us the other day over lunch at Michael's, where he came to beat the drum (actually, he thumped an ice bucket) for "The Barbarian Invasions," the Oscar-nominated film by his friend Denys Arcand. "The Bushes are a very loving family." Though he calls himself a "dyed-in-the-wool liberal," the "Dragnet" star is also a major police buff. "There's a tremendous initiative in law enforcement [that] may be reversed if Bush is not re-elected," he said. "Let this administration finish this war and this fight against terrorism." The "isolationist" in him doesn't think America should depend on Middle East oil, but "there's nothing wrong with trying to protect our Western lifestyle." Aykroyd admits he was handicapped in getting Bush elected - he's a Canadian citizen. "My wife [Donna Dixon] has the vote in the family," said the "Ghostbusters" star, giving a smile to the fetching former Miss Virginia. Dixon rolled her eyes. "I'm for [Sen. John] Kerry," she said. The trouble with a Kerry win, Aykroyd pointed out, is that it would "push Hillary off into the future. " "If Bush is re-elected, then Hillary is set up to run for President in 2008," said Aykroyd, who suspects the Clintons may feel the same way. "I'll be there with my band to help her. Then we'll have the glory days back for the Democrats."
wondered how many dems felt the same way. if support for kerry is primarily of the "anybody but bush" variety, it might make some sense to vote for bush now, if you really want hilary, or someone else later. also, i liked his comment about fighting terror and how that could go by the wayside if kerry, or another dem who's equally unserious about the issue, were to win this year.
For all the crap people take when mentioning who celebs support, even when it isn't meant to be serious, you come with this? I love Dan Akroyd, but I really don't like this current administration. Dan Akroyd won't change my mind.
OK, so Dan's for Bush and his wife's for Kerry. That is a bipartisan marriage except Dan's opinion doesn't mean anything until he changes his citizenship. Should we do some more name dropping of celebs and for whom they are voting?
Explain to me why I should care about this? There is not one Dem in the country, including Hillary, who wants four more years of Bush for whatever reason. Ackroyd's an idiot playing into the hands of GOP fabulists.
We shouldn't care who Dan Akroyd votes for. Just like we shouldn't care who Al Franken, Coldplay, or Susan Sarandon vote for.
The funny thing is you never really hear about people being influenced by celebrities when it comes to voting, yet everytime a celeb opens their mouth and takes a liberal stance, they get blasted to no end by Rush and Hannity. You don't usually see that reaction from liberals, even when Bruce Willis called Clinton "the Devil."
Yeah, conservatives love to rip celebrities when they give their opinions, yet they like to vote them into office. How many liberal actors have been Governor of our most populous state or President?
Poseur: One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others. You just described everyone who's ever held a major office.
If we really cared what celebrities thought, then wouldn't Gore be president right now by a landslide? Well, every celebrity except Chuck Heston.
