why not get dampier as our backup center? Phoenix is set to offer him just over the mid level exception. I think thats quite a steal. He was a league leader in rebounding and could play a similiar role to Cato. I think acquiring him would give us a formidable frontline especially with Shaq packing his bags headed to miami. If we could then trade Mo taylor for a PG (like daniels) or even Kittles would give us a beautiful lineup. PG Daniels, Lue SG Jackson SF T-Mac, Nachbar PF Juwan Howard, Weatherspoon C Yao, Dampier(can play additional minutes at PF)
Would love to have Dampier if he would come to Houston. He could fit in nicely at the backup four and five. And while I am dreaming... send MoTaylor plus to Portland for SAR. We would be big and tough with the following roster: Yao/Dampier Howard/Dampier/SAR SAR/JJ/Boki TMac/AGriffin/Pike Lue/Gaines I would love this team. Tough. Can play D. Big. Can rebound and score from 4 out of the 5 spots on the floor. Strong bench.
I think Damp is also looking for more money than the MLE. He's looking for the big bucks, likely to occur with a sign and trade.
Because he wants big money and he wants to start? If he's settling for the MLE he can go be a starter on pretty much any other team but Miami and Sacramento. Why would he want to be our back up? We can't offer him the money or the minutes he wants. Name one reason he'd want to come here.
This guy has been playing in Golden State and is talking about going to the Knicks. Do you really think he cares about a championship? Not every player does. To many players, it's just a job.
1) I think Dampier could start at the 4 replacing the role Cato played but providing slightly better offense. 2) At the moment noone is offering him more than the mid level exception so why not the Rockets. 3) If we try to do a sign and trade I wouldn't want to sign him for much more than the exception. I'm not sure we have anything to offer that GS would want.
dampier is nice and all..but i dont want him unless we trade mo for him, cause then dampier wants 6-ish mil for about 10-15min,20min tops..thats too much..trade mo for him, or even juwan..and start dampier bring mo or juwan off the bench...dampier is better at offense than cato,no doubt...they are the same defensivly..damps stats are more cause he played more..but if he was measured in catos minutes its be virtually identical
Let's start him at the 4, a la Cato. We give him a sign and trade contract, starting at the trade exception of 6.99 million, and a six year deal. We would have a monster inside game with him addition.
SAR wants to getout of portland because they wanna use him as a small forward. so, i dont see how you're lineup works...
SAR doesn't want to play over POR other small forwards. He never said that he doesn't want to play that position.
This is in response to the above poster who indicated that Dampier (Whom this thread is about) is out for money and not championships. This idea is further substatiated by the fact that Dampier had his first above average year at the end of his contract. Usually a good indicator of an underachiever.
Actually he did say that he was not happy because they wanted him to play out of his "natural" position at the 3. He considers himself a true 4 and does not want to play the 3.
If you could somehow assure me either Howard or Taylor would be dealt, I could maybe see Dampier taking the MLE to start at PF for us.
