Did the WB not see what a shi**y movie Full Throttle was? Please don't let him have this one, I don't want to see Superman shaking his ass in the Fortress of Solitude. And Drew Barrymore as Lois Lane, come on. Worst of all, Ashton Kutcher might be Superman or Batman and the WB wants him to get one of the rolls.

    An Angelic Reunion for Superman?
IGN FilmForce has heard who might direct and star.

July 23, 2003 - Sources for IGN FilmForce claim that the rumors are true about Charlie's Angels director McG being back in the director's chair for Warner Brothers' long-in-development Superman. We've been advised that McG has "signed" on to direct the film and that he is now "working with [screenwriter] J.J. Abrams on further development of the script." This will not be announced until Warner Brothers is ready to give Superman the green light again.

As with Catwoman director Pitof, though, there are said to be executives at Warner Brothers who remain uncertain about McG. Might the lackluster performance by Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle be the reason?

"Many people at Warner Brothers and on Superman fought to get (McG) back onboard," we were told. "Other executives are not convinced he is the safest pair of hands for Superman. McG is onboard and if Warners are comfortable with the script and him then he'll make it. You understand how bad it would look if they announced him now and in six months they dumped him when someone better comes along?" Like what happened when McG was dumped in favor of Brett Ratner who later ankled the pic?

Sources also advised IGN FilmForce that "McG's first choice for Lois Lane is Drew Barrymore, simple as that." And what about the Man of Steel? McG recently told the BBC that, should he regain the director's chair, he had "three choices for the role, but I can't share them yet."

Apparently, a past contender for the title role is being wooed again. According to one source, "McG seemingly pulled a favor from [his CA:FT co-star] Demi Moore – Ashton Kutcher met with (President, Domestic Production, Warner Bros. Pictures) Jeff Robinov and McG to have an informal chat about Superman recently." No offer was made, as far as we know, but Kutcher apparently reiterated his preference for Batman over Superman.

Kutcher is the preferred choice of Warner Brothers for either franchise because he might attract teenage girls to go see a superhero movie, a niche audience that many comic book movies don't land. Besides, Kutcher seems hellbent on being taken seriously now as an actor (although one wonders how wearing a rubber cowl or blue and red spandex might accomplish that).

Our sources also informed us that fans and the press should only expect to hear from Warner Brothers when they're denying a published report or have a formal announcement to make. After the very public flame-outs of both Batman vs. Superman and Superman, Warner Brothers apparently won't "say anything about their Big Three [Batman, Superman and Catwoman] until they are in a position where they have a manageable budget and are good to go. The emphasis is on preparing these movies and making sure everyone is comfortable with the direction they are heading, not rushing into it panicking."

What do you think of Drew Barrymore as Lois Lane?

i would never watch Ashton Kutchner as Superman.
Drew is too goofy to play Lois also.

I'm a Marvel fan first too, but I hate Hollywood stupidity. Looks like the WB still hasn't figured out why Marvel has been succesful lately. How many people had heard of Tobey Maguire before? Though he had been in some good movies, he wasn't a house hold name. Hugh Jackman?

"Oh puny WB execs, your feeble attempts to lure in a younger demographic will ultimately lead you to your doom. Your pathetic assclown leader, McG, should be back where he belongs... directing s***ty music videos. When I return from the Phantom Zone, I will face down your pretty boy superhero, break him in two, and proclaim to all the (now enslaved) citizens of Earth that... DUDE, YOU JUST GOT PUNK'D!"

McG will never get to make this film. WB got cold feet with Brett Ratface after Red Dragon underwhelmed at the box office, so why would they give McG the director's chair after Full Throttle was a disappointment?

I've been saying it for 5 years, but I'll repeat it yet again. Until WB gives producer Jon Peters(the man responsible for Wild Wild West) the pink slip, Superman is destined for failure(assuming it's ever actually filmed). He keeps insisting on the latest hot actor(Cage, Fraser, Kutcher, Hartnett, Bloom) or successful young director(McG, Ratface) instead of doing what Marvel does and hiring the right people for the project, regardless if no one's ever heard of them.

Did anyone read the script reviews for J.J. Abrams' Superman draft? He actually had Lex Luthor as a Kryptonian for chrissakes! And for that matter, Krypton didn't even blow up in his script. The story ended with Superman leaving Earth to return home(where he wouldn't have any powers, but I doubt Abrams and Peters are even aware of this).

If WB was smart, they'd sit on this property for a couple more years and just let Smallville transition into a big screen series. They've already got the perfect Superman and Lex Luthor. And there would be no need to waste the entire first flick telling the origin of Kal-El/Clark Kent. The TV show will have already done that(not to mention Richard Donner's classic film).

Of course if WB were smart, we would've never been subjected to a disaster like Crapman & Robin.

What's with all the one-named directors on DC Comic character films? Pitof? McG?

I read the script reviews, and all I'll say is this: J.J. Abrams is a f***ing hack. Krypton doesn't blow up? Lex a "Superman"? Sounds like Highlander 2 all over again (taking the classic material and defecating on it).

McG + Abrams + clueless WB execs = kill me now.

For some reason, everytime I think of McG, I think of Roy from the "Poochie" Simpsons episode. Y'know... "All right, Mrs. S!" Irritates me to no end.

Superman should be played by someone in their mid 30's not mid 20's like Kuchner. Otherwise Jimmy Olsen would have to be in his mid teens . besides clark is supposed to be an accomplished journalist by the time he meets Lois right? you don't get to be one at 25.

here's my actor pick for the part: Robert Gant (he's 35)

I think the man has talent. Alias is one of the best shows on TV. But he's completely wrong for Superman. Although a lot of what he's writing in the script is based on what Jon Peters wants(Superman dying for example).

You're right about the Highlander 2 comparison though. That's actually the first thing I thought of when I read that script review. And we all know how well that sequel went over with fans of the first one.

Dougray Scott, he was supposed to be Wolverine but he got hurt during the filming of Mission Impossible 2.

He's about 38 years old though, so I guess it might be too late.

This is just for fun and reminiscing about the past.

Remember John Haymes Newton who played Superboy in the first season?

And there's Gerard Christopher who played Superboy for 3 years, almost got the role of Superman in Lois and Clark but the producers found out he was Superboy and didn't want somebody who already played the role. Also, his car was backed into by producer Jon Peters back in March. Talk about fate.

I will never again hear any talk about a Superman movie without thinking of Kevin Smith, Giant Spiders, and the Wild Wild West. Oh, and I think some skinny actor like Guy Pierce should be Superman. He isn't strong because he is buff, but because he is an alien.

He doesn't look so skinny in the comics.

I never said he did. Also, not a fanboy, so I don't care. I just think that there is no reason, given that he gets super strength from being an alien, that the dude should be all ripped.

I can suspend my disbelief and buy that a there's a man from Krypton who can fly, but I don't think I could ever begin to accept either of these guys throwing cars or deadlifting warehouses.

THIS AVERAGE "JOE" WAS ALMOST YOUR SUPERMAN.
