Dallas has made several deals that has its roster out of balance.

    CBS version of current roster:
C - Dampier, Bradley, Pavel, Eschmeyer
C - (centers that may play backup PF) - Booth, Scott Williams
PF - Dirk, Henderson(useless and hurt)
SF - Finley, Stackhouse, J.Howard, Wahad
    SG - M.Daniels
PG - J.Terry, DHarris (rookie), Best, Stefanson, Dickau

Dallas has extra centers and small forwards (even figuring they take the SG minutes).
Dallas appears to only need a decent backup PF to round out their team.

Maybe, hopefully, they would give us something we could use for for MoT(or other PF) which would fill their biggest hole.

Maybe (salaries should match on following):
1 - MoT and Nachbar for Stackhouse and Eschmeyer
    - a backup scoring PF for a backup scoring SF
    2 - Spoon for Booth
    - salaries are equal (and both are overpaid) but Dallas does it because Booth's contract is one year longer and we do it to get a decent backup C.
3 - Mot+JJ+Pike for Finley (and TE for Booth or EE and SB): I doubt Dallas does this unless they think Finley does not justify his huge cotract that runs through 2008 - and we used the TE so they could lose Booth's (or Eschmeyer and Bradley) salary.

    I'd pass on 1 and 3, but I'd do 2.

1 and 3 are pointless...unless we can then trade those guys for a backup C...but jeez.

I'd do 2. The only reason Spoon can't play C is because he's undersized. If Spoon was like 6-10 it'd be perfect =[

Golden State didn't even want to give up Dampier to the Lakers. You think Dallas would want to deal w/ us?

Good post, ggore. Should make for some good trade speculation. And being rivals did not stop Dallas from stealing Najera from us.

Let's trade for Bradley and play the twin towers. :)

how about A. Griffin for Eschmeyer?
i think A.G. had a decent season with the Mavs.

don't know too much about Eschmeyer but i like the idea of getting an extra 7 footer.

    This guy has lost it...

    1) is horrible... why would we give up MoT and Nachabar to people that will hopefully contribute a lot this season. For two people that might not get off the bench. Stackhouse has seen his better days, and Evan is ONLY in the league because of his size. He might avg. 2.5 min per game over his entire career.

    2) is o.k... but neither guy will contribute to neither team. Booth is more athletic then Spoon, but in the end.. who cares

    3) is horrible... we're not going to discuss this

How about TE for Booth? Dallas needs less players and may be jonesing for a TE.

Not trying to single you out, but what has convinced people on this board that Calvin Booth is a serviceable backup C? Last year he played a career-high 71 games on a center-starved Seattle team. His previous career high was 55 games! Not so much because he was injured; he just sucks. He's a white collar shotblocker that doesn't rebound or score, or pass, or really do anything useful at all. He's just a body to throw in the game if you want to waste space. Oh, and he's overpaid to boot.

I'd much rather have Shawn Bradley. At least he can contribute, even if he does so akwardley and clumsily.

    How about this deal:

Spoon for Eschmeyer and one of DAL's trade exceptions

Dallas might do this because Spoon's contract comes off the books earlier than Eschmeyer's and since they need depth at PF. Houston does it because, while Eschmeyer has a bad contract, he is a backup center who makes around $3-3.5M per season.

I remember when Eschmeyer was with New Jersey; he averaged close to a double-double one year. He could provide some decent relief for Yao and some help on the boards in limited minutes.

It is kind of funny that the harshest criticism of these suggestions is that we give up too much for Stackhouse or Finley because they suck.

Finley is a MUCH better player that MoT and JJ - but Dallas may be willing to deal him because he has a large contract and they are overloaded at that position. IF Dallas would do that deal (which is the big question), then we should (and I think CD would) make the deal. Yao/Juwan/Finley/TMac/Sura would make us the favorite in the western conference (Sura being the weakest spot).

Also, Stackhouse would be a better starter for us (averages over 20 points and 4 assists - ). He would start ahead of JJ and JJ could take all the backup minutes at SG and SF. Even if you think JJ shoult start in fornt of Stack, you have to admit that Stack would be the scorer off the bench that will be needed when Tmac and/or Yao take a breather.

Thw whole point is to trade excess (and overpaid) talent for talent we can use (even if it is overpaid also). And, if we can pick up better talent (like Finley or Stack) along the way, that is great also.

The TE for Bradley would be interesting - it would save Cuban 7 mil (3.5 mil plus 3.5 mil in lux tax) - or maybe he would throw in something else, like JHoward, for us to take Eschmeyer - it just seems that something along these lines would work.
