ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL...aw, I forgot how the song goes. Well, we got some spotlight tonight on MNF. If we show up like last week, it won't look very good especially with the spotlight. Antonio Bryant's good from what I hear, but he'll still be the #3 WR. Larry Allen missed some of practice last week to the hamstring but it looks like he'll play. Willie Blade looks like he's healthy and ready to go, which should really help out the D-Line if he does his job. Derek Ross is out for this game but should be getting ready to practice. Oh, and Quincy and Cundiff are questionable due to the evil spirits that are possesing them. Darn you evil Quincy. There was an article that talked about the team being too tight and nervous last week, trying to please the coach. You know, Anderson making a terrible holding penalty, Swinton running on glass ankles, and definitly QC who didn't seem to know what he wanted to do. Parcells has told his team just to have some fun, which is weird coming from him. Hopefully, that will work and we'll score 52 pts and give up 10 at the most. Hey, we were like 2nd in the NFL is yds last week. (I know, both #1 and 2 lost.) Again, this should be a big test for the DAL team. NY isn't afraid to blitz and put it into Quincy's hands, so he'll have to play well. Troy and Cason will need to run well to help the load. On D, we got to pass rush....at least once. We may have a good secondary, but it doesn't work if the QB's got 12 seconds. Even evil Quincy would find someone. They also need to get their heads into the game. ATL ran some "trick" plays that made us look pretty stupid. Cannot afford to give up too many points. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but extra points are vital so we also need to make sure we make those. So are 20 yd kicks. When in the redzone 4 or 5 times, we can't end up with no points. That's all I got to say for now.
Man...I don't want to sound like just another anti-Cowboy jerk. But the Dallas Cowboys have no business being on Monday Night Football. People won't still be tuned in during the second half to watch the coach on the sideline.
I am a Boys fan and I agree a 5 win team should not be showcased, but the bottom line is it's a team from NY playing the most loved/hated team in the league. It may be a blowout but there will be alot of interest. It's all about ratings. Even when the Boys are bad they still draw better than about every other team.
we'll see...i really don't think that will be the case...plus, ratings aren't assessed just at the beginning of a game...it's throughout the game. i agree, at the beginning and during pre-game, interest may be high, particularly with the return of parcells. but by the 2nd quarter, i think you'll see it tail off significantly. the giants looked really good last week.
It'll be a good test on how the Boys effect ratings. They had 2 good teams on in week 1, this week they have 1 good team and Dallas As for the game. I expect to see Quincy suck really hard. We won't be able to run the ball consistentlyeither. Hopefully the D can keep us close then just hope for a lucky bounce or two. Honestly I am a Boys fan but it absolutely blows to see us having our marquee positions manned by Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick. Very CFL-like in talent at those 2 positions. Hopefully after this game Tuna will go out and find a player or two who can make us competive. Good news is when ever I get this down on the Boys they usually surprise me and play well for a game.
The Cowboys have no business on Monday Night Football? I disagree. Last weeks game against the Vick-Less Falcons (of all teams) produced Fox's highest overnight NFL ratings ever. Let me repeat myself, "the highest overnight NFL ratings ever." I don't know about you, but if I was a MNF exec, I would toss a few more games to the Cowboys. Fox sees highest-ever overnight ratings
sounds to me like that record isn't dependent on the team...but is dependent on the fact it's the first game of the year showcased on Fox...the novelty of the new season. note that it broke the "long-standing" previous record...of the opening game in 2002 on Fox (St. Louis vs. Denver).
I am flying to Dallas on business later today, and I can't wait to read the sports section of the Dallas Morning News tomorrow morning after the Giants destroy the Cowboys this evening.
You make a valid point, but just for the record, it was actually the 2nd regular season game that Fox showcased. Dallas played the afternoon game. That said, good or bad, Dallas does draw an audience. Check back tomorrow and see how the ratings are. I'd put money that ABC gets their money worth.
I'm down by 30 something points in my fantasy league. I have both Toomer and Shockey on my team. GO GIANTS!
Parcells told his team to just have fun? Hogwash. He should be telling them that noone on the face of the universe believes they can win this game. They are the grand underdog of underdogs. He should also say the whole world is against you on this one. Not even your #1 Cowboy fans think you have a chance in hell of pulling this one off. So, you can either go out there and prove the universe wrong. Or, you can blow it out your cakeholes and play like a bunch of damn sniveling weasels. If you give everything you have, then maybe we just might win this football game. But, I don't think you can do it and Lord knows the rest of the universe doesn't think you can do it. So, either fulfill your destiny by losing or meet fate at the front door and plow right through him. We don't need any of this "have fun" bs. We need a freaking motivational speech about how the whole world is betting on NY and you have to prove them wrong or go crawl back into your maggot hole...YOU MAGGOTS! NOW GET OUT THERE AND PLAY SOME FOOTBALL LIKE I KNOW YOU CAN! LOL Good luck! About the one thing I can count on is skipping the second half and going to bed early. That seems to be a pretty sure bet right now. Bed - 1 ; Cowboys - 0 .
for the record...i think the pregame ratings will be high...and maybe the first quarter...but this is more likely than not to be a blowout...and given that, the ratings will plummet as the game goes on. that's why I don't think Dallas has any business being on a Monday night game.
How the hell can Billy Cundiff still be the kicker? He blew a couple of kicks last game..... There has to be some old fogey out there that we could pick up better than this guy.
The game got the highest overnights ever because of circumstance. Fox had the doubleheader and the sole afternoon game that day, CBS had the early game. Therefore, the game was unopposed in almost all major media markets (Houston, Dallas, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington DC-Baltimore, Miami, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Phoenix; basically everywhere in the entire country except for the 4 cities that also had late games (Chicago and San Fran being the biggest) and did not have to compete with any major local teams. It was literally the only game in town. The cowboys and giants are both disgustingly ugly teams to watch. Lucky for the Shockey-Parcells subplot or else this would be a serious dog.
I actually have no problem with Dallas being on MNF. They like to schedule some "storyline" games. Tuna coaching against his old team is a good storyline to milk. Also, they scheduled this game early in the season, which was good. If they schedule this late in the season, they probably have another one of those games where two 4-9 teams square off, of which they usually have two or three per year. With the parity in the NFL, ABC can't just schedule Dallas, Green Bay, and San Francisco 3 times each like they used to do, so they have to take more chances with the scheduling, rather than rely on last season's won/loss record...
I don't think about having fun this game. He was talking about fun in general. If the players are not having any fun doing this, then IMO they shouldn't be there. (main reason why I quit football.) Yeah, there is all the hard word and yelling by the coach and stuff like that, but by gametime if they team is too worried about mistakes and not having fun, things will go bad. Well, I guess since he's been doing pretty good in camp and preseason, they'll give him another shot. I believe Parcells said that if he screws up again, then he'll probably be gone. I guess you don't judge by just one game, basically. I personally don't think any kicker should have problems like Cundiff did, but I guess I'm willing to go with the coach. Plus, I don't know if there are any kickers available. I would have figured if there were, they would have had the job since spring. As for the ratings and MNF, the Cowboys talent wise may not deserve to be on MNF, but for some strange reason they seem to attract attention. IIRC, they always seem to do well in sells and stuff despite putting out crappy teams these past few years. Plus, the Parcells and NY and Shockey thing is going, not to mention if there are still people wondering about how Parcells and Jones get along. Oh yeah, and we're like 2nd in yards after the 1st week. (don't know where after yesterday's games.)
agreed..this draws pre-game and first quarter interest. but if, as in all likelihood, the giants take a commanding lead...sets across the nation will be tuning in elsewhere. the idea isn't to broadcast the most controversial teams...the idea is to broadcast the best matchups that assure that people will stay tuned all game long. of course..on any given sunday...you know the rest. but i still don't put mismatches up on the board and gamble that dallas will win a shocker.
Well, I guess you could put the Patriots, Eagles, Bears on MNF, but the way they've kind of played, a blowout could happen in their game as well and people won't watch. Granted, Dallas may be MUCH more likely to get blown out, but who knows. From what I can tell, there biggest problem is redzone O. For the most part, they've been moving the ball and getting yards. They could have blown out ATL last week, even if they defense still sucked. Basically, I'm trying to say Dallas has shown some signs of "entertainment." Would you rather see a 9-6 INDY-CLE game?
RC -- yes...i'd rather see better teams. playoff caliber teams. that's generally why teams like the cowboys aren't put on MNF.
