I think the Rockets should look hard at both of these players. I know that people think we should get Stro, SAR, Marshall, or AD, but I think these two guys are better values. Dale Davis - I don't know if he wants to leave the pacers, but he's 36 years old, and he's the type of player that the rockets need. Some people might look at his age and say that he's too old, but he got 6 rebs and 1 blk in 21 minutes played this year. That's not too bad for a 36 year old. He can probably play for 2-3 more years. Kerry Kittles - I've liked his game since his NJ days. He can score 12-15 pts with ease since he can light it up anywhere on the court. He is also a lengthy 6'6 who can guard the perimeter. With the draft, we can get a younger PF like Simien or Turiaf. If Kittles and Davis can split the MLE, then it will be a great summer for us. As for the point guard situation, I know that Minnasota is dying to get rid of sam cassell and we can probably get rid of Howard's contract by swapping the 2 players. This way, even if the trade doesn't work out, Cassell's contract comes off next year. If we need another atheletic player, we can get Jumaine Jones from the Lakers by giving up Sura w/ 2 second round picks, or I might even trade a first rounder with it. Jones has been excellent this year due to his aggressiveness. When he attacks the basket, it's very hard for any 2 or 3 to guard. Sometimes he just settles for the 3 ball, but he does shoot 39%, so it's not too bad.
We need an athletic PF who can either score (SAR) or play defense and block shots (Evans, Swift, Marshall). Besides Davis is WAY too old to be getting 20+ mins in a Rockets uni. As for Kittles, he is just too injury prone. Besides we need an athletic SG who is taller than Wesley and can play solid defense. I say pass on both of these guys.
Every player you listed has a weakness. Dale Davis is old, but we've all seen the way Deke played this year and Deke is like 58. Dale Davis is a sure thing, so you know what you'll get. He used to be able to hit that 15 baseline jumper, but I don't know if he can hit it anymore. I know for sure that his defense is still very good. He blocks more shots and has better one on one defense than Reggie Evans. I really don't think Evans can play defense at all. The few times I've watched him play, all he can do is rebound and NOTHING else....maybe just a slower version of Rodman. He avg. 0.1 blks a game his career. I'd much rather have Davis than Evans.
i agree with you about the PF's. davis is too old for such a big role. he can't hit the mid-range J so its like having bowen on offense. the same goes for evans though. about the SG's: kittles is taller than wesley and plays tough D. he just can't shoot half as good as wesley can.
Pass to all of the above. Let's try and get even older. kevin Willis is a free agent and that would make him 2nd oldest behind Deke. We can get him for vets minimum and surely he must have known or been a knick at some point. Allen leavell is still lighting up a Y league someplace. LOL
If we could get Kittles for something close to the minimum, I think we should by all means go for it...
