By George, Lynch is big fan of Larry BY FRANK ISOLA DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER All the teams on George Lynch's wish list - that includes Houston, Miami and Denver - are championship contenders in his eyes. The other team is the Knicks and that's because Lynch wants to play for Larry Brown and feels Brown's presence should get New York back in the playoffs. "His system will be beneficial to everyone," Lynch said yesterday. "Once the players buy into it, they will win games. Larry is a good enough coach that in every close game he will make the necessary adjustments to help you win." Lynch, a 12-year veteran forward, was released by the Hornets on Friday and will become a free agent once he clears waivers tomorrow. The Knicks have expressed interest in the 35-year-old Lynch, who is exactly the type of tough, defensive-minded player Brown wants. The 6-8 Lynch said his top choice would be the Rockets because he lives in Dallas and feels that Houston needs a backup small forward. The Knicks, Rockets, Nuggets and Heat all would have to release a player to sign Lynch. "At this stage in my career I need to play for a coach who understands what I can do for a team," Lynch added. "Larry Brown, George Karl, Jeff Van Gundy and Stan Van Gundy all know what I can bring. I can play defense, rebound and I have experience. Plus, all of those teams already have a big man." Lynch has been sidelined all preseason after have electrical stimulation therapy for plantar fasciitis. He has stayed in shape by riding a stationary bicycle and lifting weights. Lynch believes he would need a week to 10 days before he can play. "I'm ready to get back to work," he said. "I think by next Monday I would be ready. If a team needs me sooner, I'll be out there." Lynch has averaged 6.6 points and five rebounds in 774 career games.
If you are waived by one of the two worst teams in the league, you should probably start looking at Europe.
I like that players put us on the top of their wish list, but I'm not sure that George Lynch could help us any at this point in his career.
He is a solid veteran that would come on the cheap and would make the team even deeper. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a legit SF on the roster especially when he can bring some extra rebounding and defense. And, the Hornets released him because he didn't want to be there and they wanted to go with their youth movement. Not because he can't play. I know his best days are behind him, but it would be a decent pickup. I guess it would depend on how they feel about Glover's role and possible contribution to the team, especially since it would probably be him who would be waived anyway to make that move.
If he has any legs left we should try to sign him. If we can spell T-Mac with a legit SF that can rebound and play defense what harm could it have. We have spots at the end of the roster that are expendable.
I used to like Lynch because he brought toughness, rebounding, and defense in his Sixers days. He's a solid pro, but I am not sure at this point with age, injuries, and the such. On the other hand, if he's willing to sign for vet min, and the Rockets willing to give it to him, then he would be a nice insurance policy through the season.
hahahaha if i was CD i sign u hahaha.....ne ways I would rather sign White than Lynch right now.....White is more athletic at this point in time, bigger, probably defend better IF TRAINED TO PLAY DEFENSE BY VAN GUNDY, and anyone can shoot better than Lynch. The way our team is constructed, we need ppl than can shoot cuz teams will be double teaming Yao and TMac hence Jho is in the starting lineup...... Having Lynch on the floor will be like Dallas vs Houston Part 1 when we played 4 on 5 on offense with Bowen on the floor last yr.... Dallas vs Houston Pt 2: We are gonna kick your a$$ for blowing us out by 40pts and Stro gonna put a facial on Dirk's sorrie a$$....As u can see, im ready for the season to start and still kinda bitter hahah
Ryan Bowen - 30 years old George Lynch - 35 years old Ryan Bowen - 6'9, 220 George Lynch - 6'8, 235 George Lynch is more of a PF, which we're already loaded w/ JHo, Swift, and Baxter. Bowen is a PF/SF who has more energy and speed than Lynch. Either way, we're set w/ this squad.
I hope that it does not become a trend that all those washed up NBA players believe that the Rockets is a nice nursery home that always open its arms whole heartedly to them.
There's no way I would pick Lynch over Bowen at this point in Lynch's career. Perhaps 5 or 6 years ago. He's falling off the map.
Lynch is a natural small forward. He is a very good ball handler....never had any problems defending small forwards nor 2 guards
