i think bonzi snowed everyone by a great series against the spurs that his team LOST. we signed him and then he was bad for whatever combination of reasons. this year, with jvg gone, everyone expected this great turnaround season. he stinks and i mean stinks...at both ends. his only redeeming quality is that he rebounds exceptionally well. his stats say he is a below average offensive player, his defense is poor. he may well not have it anymore, but he should not be in the rotation once tmac gets back. i think dadakota somewhat agrees with this.

and i apologize for starting a new thread, but wells has been given a free pass around here. no matter what he does, posters still say bonzi is playing well.

what exactly does this have to do with DD?

I say the over/under is 10 posts before someone says it is b/c JVG ruined him

Bonzi is a poor defender, but then again, most of the team seems to feel like defense isn't necessary half the time as well. Not stressed enough

    You sir are a genius.

I have been tracking his post play for the last few weeks and he has been AWFUL when he posts up, more turnovers than made shots.

The problem with Bonzi is he tries to do too much, if he just played as a cutter and rebounder he would be a nice addition but he doesn't.

He goes to the low block and for some reason the team honors this and passes him the ball.. BAD IDEA...(WARNING WARNING -DANGER WILL ROBINSON) turnover or missed shot coming......and he stagnates the offense...YUCK !

Not to mention his defense is HORRID.....

The best thing that can happen is Tmac cuts into Bonzi and Heads minutes.

    Bench the Bonz...he is overated.

Wells is awesome. He loves shooting and makes a high percentage of outside shots (a la Antoine Walker). He is an excellent finisher at the basket as he almost never misses a layup. He is a league leader at FTs. His post-up game is great as he almost never turns the ball over going one on one. He's never gets lost in a rotation and he plays tight defense on his man. His +/- stats are incredible. What's not to love about Wells?

Agreed. Bonzi is like the anti-Battier. He can put up nice scoring and rebounding numbers from time to time, but he makes so many mental mistakes on both ends.

Rebponding is a pretty good redeeming quality that we need. I would say his defense against iguadala was poor but his defense is at least for the most part not worst than Tmac and certainly better than Rafer the last 2 games. Never in his career has a he missed so many open layups. So unless he continues his horrendous layup shooting all year I would say it was just a fluke. And he will help us. Bonzi is not starter material but he is a good backup and that's all he is being asked to do. Also I would add he has always performed well in the playoffs given minutes. How many Rockets players can you say that about.

Of course Bonzi is flailing, RA is the coach... :D

Bonzi is an asset. By February 21(?) he will be 'in demand' by a contender (pretender, probably) and the Rox will (may?) finally get some value for him.

Hey, Riles - give us JWill('s expiring) we'll give you two guys you like, mj and Bonzi. Deal (please).

His defense is not better than Rafer's. If all your looking at is on ball defense, it might appears that way because Rafer is guarding the opposing PG who has the ball in his hands so often. But Rafer plays smart on defense for the most part. Bonzi does not. In terms of frequency of defensive mistakes, Bonzi is far worse. He loses his man off the ball way too often, and his help defense is piss poor.

If you're familiar with those NBA Live video games, Bonzi's "defensive awareness" rating is probably the worst on the team.

I don't like or dislike the guy. I think he is by far the least of our problems. But I will make 1 note to semi-back him up. He isn't a solid defender by any means. But he can get physical and he makes what I call "impact plays" on defense. Meaning he comes up with momentum swinging passing lane steals and on the ball strips. These plays help for reasons not shown on the stat sheet. His defense is almost exactly that of Barkley's. Generally horrible. But those impact plays do help. Especially in limited minutes.

Offensively... I say plug him in, if he is hot give him 25 minutes. If he is cold put him down for the night. Like Rudy used to do with our PG rotation, play the hot hand. Can't bash Bonzi too harshly when he has a solid contract, wasn't expected to do much, and isn't the reason we drop games to joke teams.

Now we all know why Bonzi hate JVG. He has the freedom to chucking it and stinking it up under Rick without getting his head chop off. :(

    denniscd,

You said Snyder and Francis are locker room problems. So why do they come back to the team? Strange!

Francis was supposed to be on a mutual leave, as you said, right?
Snyder said he didnt want this **** anymore, as you said, right?

So, what happens? Why the change of heart from Snyder and Francis? I love to hear the story.

Bonzi is crap, Sacremento is laughing their butts off and happy he failed to sign that extension.

I would rather have Mike Harris ........than Bonzi.

Bonzi is old and he can't finish or post up like he used to. That's what happens when you are over the hill. I wish he would figure that out or I wish Adelman would exercise some leadership  and tell Bonzi to stop posting up so much and focus more on slashing to the basket and getting offensive rebounds.

There are times when Bonzi plays very hard and it helps us, even when his shooting is off. But he just isn't that good anymore, not that he ever was that great to start with.

Well, unless the inside story is off, then Snyder and Francis are still a part of the team. There are a lot of locker room stiffs around the league but yet they still play. Joachim Noah just got called out for yelling at his coach and took an interteam 2 game suspension. But he'll still play cause he's good. Same goes for Marbury although I just read that he's gonna be out with ankle surgery.

So if Bonzi keeps playing, what does that say about Adelman?

    or JVG?

DD, come on man. Bonzi's a proven commodity and a San Antonio Spurs killer. What the hell has Mike Harris done in the league. That's rediculous.

Landry is better than Bonzi around the basket right now. AB is a better ball handler than Head. Why wait for TMAC to come back. Swap the minutes NOW!

Head is a great spot up shooter, and uh, a great spot up shooter.

Once Bonzi started missing every rebound he was worthless to us and should have been benched.
