Dad Scoops and Thows Son's Opponent AURORA, Ill. -- A father bounded into a youth wrestling match, picked up his son's winning opponent and launched him off the mat, an episode caught on a home video. After tossing the 11-year-old boy into the air Sunday, the angry father headed toward the cameraman, the father of the airborne boy. "I was just wrestling, then the guy throws me," the boy, Nick Nasenbeny of suburban Aurora, told WMAQ-TV in Chicago. It was not known if the boy was injured. Ray Hoffman, the father in the video and a part-time wrestling coach, told the television station he regrets his behavior and feels embarrassed. He said his son's shoulder was injured. Hoffman also said he will no longer be allowed to coach. Dean Bogess, a wrestling coach who attended the meet, said Nick was using a legal move to pin his opponent and that the referee was about to stop the match when Hoffman intervened. "The match was being stopped. He had blown his whistle already," Bogess said. Nick's father, Dan Nasenbeny, said he was stunned by Hoffman's actions. "I mean, there is a lot of different ways to stop a match. Not to pick up my son and launch him 5 feet, 10 feet in the air," Nasenbeny said. Hoffman did not return messages left by The Associated Press.
THat would be freaking hilarious if it was in a TV show or something. What an ass. Don't let your son wrestle if you are afraid he might hurt himself.
I'm not sure how big the other kid's father was, but I woulda been upside that dude's head with the camcorder if that happened to my kid.
Definitely inappropriate, but that was a far cry from launching the kid 5 to 10 feet in the air. That kid got MAYBE 5 INCHES in the air.
Hoffman should be charged with assault. Dont let your kid wrestle if you can't handle him being pinned.
That's the weird thing about Houston. We don't have a good division wrestling program here. It's a damn good sport, and, while I understand that the father should not have been involved, it was a move that can break an arm. While legal, it's considered bad sportsmanship. Tantamount to an NBA player elbowing an arm into a guys neck when he's going for the layup. Again, the father was out of bounds, but he knew the hold was a questionable move, which is made to try and break the arm/wrist. I wish more people knew about wrestling. In Houston, it isn't around at all. For the record, I wrestled in Alaska, and in college at Tech.
Yup. He was thrown 2 feet on to a soft pad. Wow. The other dad is just making crap up. They are both stupid.
I bet that 11 year old is like the William Zabka of the wrestling junior league. He is probably known for injuring his opponents.
He might be the best around.
I love how on the video the dad gives a Howard Dean scream when he tosses the kid. The move the kid on the other kid is risky but the ref was right on top of it and according to the video was getting ready to call it. There was no reason at all for the dad to jump in and then go after the other kid's dad other than to show he's a big man and no one should f*ck with his kid. Parents like this are what's ruining kid's sports...
