http://www.nba.com/hornets/news/dickau_trade050930.html September 30, 2005 Hornets Trade Dickau OKLAHOMA CITY - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced that they have traded guard Dan Dickau to Boston in exchange for a 2006 second round pick. Dickau, who became an unrestricted free agent following the end of the regular season, was signed by the Hornets before the trade in order to facilitate the deal. "After we drafted Chris Paul, it became obvious that Dan would look to sign elsewhere in order to have a chance to compete for a starting point guard job," said Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott. "Making this trade gives Dan that chance, which he earned by what he did for us last season, and it also prevents us from losing him without compensation. We wish him the best of luck in Boston." Dickau averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 assists in 67 games for the Hornets last season. He was acquired along with a 2005 second round draft choice from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Darrell Armstrong on Deember 3, 2004. The second round pick that the Hornets will receive in the trade originally belonged to Miami, but Boston acquired the pick on August 2, 2005 as part of the largest trade in NBA history. As part of that trade, the Hornets acquired Rasual Butler (from Miami) and Kirk Snyder (from Utah) in exchange for the draft rights to Roberto Duenas. The trade also sent Antoine Walker (from Boston) and Jason Williams, James Posey and Andre Emmitt (from Memphis) to Miami, Eddie Jones (from Miami) and Raul Lopez (from Utah) to Memphis, Greg Ostertag (from Memphis) to Utah, and Curtis Borchardt (from Utah) and Qyntel Woods, the draft rights to Albert Miralles, two second round draft picks and cash considerations (from Miami) to Boston.
I know this deal was finalized a while ago, but I wish the Rockets would have atleast made an offer for this kid. He has good PG skills and is a steal for a 2nd rounder.
for a second rounder?!?! I know we'd either have to cut one of our guards or include one of the guards with an expiring contract to make it work, but a 2006 2nd round pick from us wouldn't be of any less value than a 2006 2nd round pick from Miami. With Sura being injured, I'd feel a lot better having Dickau on our roster. Maybe we don't need him. Maybe James, Anderson or Head will step up, but Dickau sure seemed steady last year. (nevermind I didn't watch the Hornets except when they played us)
It was a sign-and-trade, you guys would have had to sign him to a pretty substantial contract. The real player you should be kicking yourself about missing out on is Jason Hart. He was actually under contract with the Bobcats, and they traded him for a second round pick. A 17 PER last year, only to while away in Sacramento this year.
I agree Hart would have seemed an excellent pickup. Whether he would have been worth it over Anderson is the question, I think it would have had to be either/or with the crowded back-court.
