At first I thought Chance's thread was just another in a long line of 'can't we just get along' threads, but it brought out lurkers. That's awesome. We don't realize over here how many people are reading. If you're reading and not posting, post here and say so. If you're a lurker and you enjoy the forum, say that. And if you're a lurker and you wish it went differently around here, say that too. Thanks in advance.

Im not sure I count as a lurker.

but I do lurk alot more than I post.

for the most part, I do enjoy reading more stuff here than I dont.
but like someoen else mentioned in another thread....I stick more with reading here when the discussion is civil. When the slinging gets especially bad, I try to avoid the threads that consistently bring out the crap.

this forum's usefullness outweighs it's bad aspects imo.

I learn a lot everyday from the various links and articles that are posted...it is stuff I would never normally find on my own.

I'm pretty much with R2K. I occasionally post, but I prefer listening to what is said back and forth. Frankly, getting all sides of the argument keeps my own thoughts honest.

I hear ya brother, I like seeing the spectrum in here but don't generally like to stick my neck to far out lest my head be lopped off...

i post in here occasionally if i have something to add, but generally try to steer clear of the bickering. but without a doubt, being able to read news and ideas from the legit posters here (who make up the vast majority) far outweighs having to look past the few losers in the D&D.

I'm an occassional poster here. I do race and religion, not politics. I can't even read the politics threads, they're so bad. Is there some way we can do a split of the D&D as we had done of the Hangout: one forum for race and religion and another for politcs? Really, it's only the politics threads that get ugly.

I definitely lurk in here more than I post.

Sometimes I feel dirty when I come into the D&D. Its like watching a train wreck.

I've been a lurker of the D&D and have not posted because I did not want to get involved in the in-fighting. There was very little rational debate, and more fighting that took place.

I finally started posting recently because I saw more threads than usual that emphasized discussion rather than fighting, so I thought I'd give the forum a try. What I found is that even the most avid poo-flingers are willing to discuss ideas, it is just that poo-flinging has become the culture in this forum, and if one insult is made, the whole thread turns into a fight. In the GARM, when an insult is made, the poster is basically ignored and dismissed, and the thread remains on course. There are posters though, that enjoy the poo-flinging and they only post in the D&D in order to start fights. We have to ignore them, and eventually I bet they will be gotten rid of (even if they are contributing members).

I feel that we need to change the attitude of the D&D forum because it is not healthy and leads no where. If we are unable to fix the fighting here, I'm afraid that I'd prolly go back to lurking. I wrote a post in Chance's thread about what we lurkers need to do. Us lurkers can change the attitude in this forum by bringing in a fresh view that isn't dominated by partisan views. Even if you don't like to post often, you can post a few times in order to contribute and set the D&D on the right track.
Please read my post in Chance's "Poo Flinging" thread (my post is on page 2) and let's see if we can change the habits in the D&D. Any change would be for the better.

Yeah, i just lurk around most of the time. I think ive only posted like 3 or 4 times in the D&D. Mostly because after the first couple of pages all threads become repetitive and people just start bickering. So even if i do have something intelligent to say about anything i dont post it. But those first couple of pages are interesting, but after that i quit.

i lurk. i don't pretend to know as much about all the issues and about politics in general as most people in here. i can't post 5 links confirming my view on any given subject at the drop of a hat like some in here can.

i read to get some world news, some views from each side (though i side with the conservative side more often than not), and to stay somewhat informed of things going on around me. i've been in here much more lately with the campaigns heating up because i like to keep a pulse on the race.

it's not so much the bickering that gets me, it's the completely disingenuous ways in which people will bring up something on a particular issue that i hate. where you know that they know there's more to it than they're saying and yet you know they'll post it anyway to support their side, most likely just to get back at someone else who just did the same thing, and they'll say they did it to get back at the first guy. you expect things to be heated, but when you know people are being purposely obtuse about something it sucks. i'm really not even talking about baiting like TJ does (though it sometimes falls into that category) because sometimes that's just funny to read and funny to watch people react.

coming into the D&D is kinda like going into the GARM last season after francis had a bad game. just hope you come out in one piece and haven't said anything too prickish to anybody.

I read almost every thread in this forum every day, but I almost never post.

I did go see your play last year though, Batman!

    yo.

I'm here lurking every day, pretty much.

I tend not to post, because I feel like if I can't post 5 sources for why I have an opinion, it will be either ignored or I will be ridiculed. Judging by other posts in this thread, I'm not alone.

I guess it's also the whole "argument vs. discussion" thing that has been brought up plenty already. You can't change anyone's mind, and it's likely that people who disagree with you will react to you violently.

    Ok lurkers...here's my 2cents.

Please don't post 5 links to back up your opinion!! It's YOUR opinion i want to read about. My personal pet peeve is how people justify their view by linking to a piece by someone else with computer access who just happened to write it first! Your opinion is likely as valid as anybody elses. This is a discussion, not a research paper.

So post away! If some numbnuts wants to take you to task, that's their problem, not yours!

That's cool, HootOwl. Thanks for coming out. Did I meet you? Lots of people from the board came to that one, including my buddy Jorge.

This is AWESOME! It's like in Men in black when I found out how many aliens there REALLY were! Jeez and I thought some of the poo I flung was only read by a handful. Glad I didn't come out of the closet and think it would be private...
