Reported on RealGM. As of the moment I'm typing, I can't seem to pin down an actual article, but I'm sure they'll be out by morning. I'm glad for both of them. Chaney's reported as saying it's a horrible working environment what with Thomas breathing down his neck and the "Fire Chaney" chants, and Fratello's been wanting a coaching gig.
Yet another fired coach on Starbury's list. Is he gonna listen to Fratello? I wonder. I woulda thought Doc Rivers.
Somehow I don't think czar is the right person to "guide" Marbury. I think Doc would've been a better choice too, not that I think Doc is a better coach, but better for that group of players.
Fratello is a good coach. He's not just the guy that coached the slow down Cavs, he also coached the fastbreak Hawks. He'll force them to play defense, but he'll let Marbury run and gun. He fits the style to the team.
For you link freaks: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1708140 So I guess that means Chaney's our new TNT color analyst. What's with those two jobs?
Damn. Isiah was the court yesterday, then said he wouldn't fire Chaney because he wanted him to try out the new team, then he fired him? What's going on?
Mike Fratello is a terrible pick for this squad. I'm certain Isiah wanted Doc, but Rivers has said nothing doing until this summer. Zeke has to make a move now, and doesn't want to just bring in an interim. Fratello has been the toughest on PGs as anybody this side of Larry Brown. I can't picture how his coaching style will work with Starbury. He's also not the greatest motivator, which is important since the Knicks lack heart more than anything right now. They aren't about to rally behind this guy. I'll say this, there isn't anyone outside of Doc worth bringing in. Isiah was between a rock and a hard place. If this prevents them from bringing Doc Rivers in this summer (and I'm 95% sure it will), pity the Knicks. Evan
Damn! I'm definitely going to miss Marv Albert and Mike Fratello on TNT. They worked very well together. Fratello is a good fit for the Knicks. They're kind of mediocre all around and don't do any one particular thing very well. Fratello will help them find some direction, which is definitely scoring with Marbury and Houston. I see some scores in the 100's in the near future. 13 full seasons coaching, with only two losing seasons, one of those coming in the strike shortened 98/99 season. Look at some of those squads that he squeezed winning seasons out of in Cleveland. The only 20 point scorer he had was Shawn Kemp.
good pickup for the Knicks. The guy knows his basketball. It'll definitely be an interesting match when the Rockets face off against the Knicks in Houston. Marbury vs Francis, and Fratello vs JVG.
Doc woulda been a better fit, IMO but i think Czar is just as good, well have to see though this is (star)bury were talkin about here
I find it amusing for the future that fratello is hardly friends with JVG and francis and marbury practically hate eachother. We are going to HATE these guys when they get good. Jazz hate.
I think Fratello and Van Gundy are actually really close friends. Their on-air "rivalry" was purely for entertainment.
Thomas has always been very mercurial. He will, i assume, continue his pattern which includes great to good moves based on his high understanding of basketball and talent, and terrible to bad moves due to his restlessness, incredible arrogance, and constant need to be having a visible effect.
Looks like Lenny Wilkens is the Knicks new coach... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1708761
