For the second consecutive year, a pair of area high-school football teams will be able to showcase themselves in front of a national television audience.

An Oct. 18 meeting between District 17-5A foes Cy-Fair and Cypress Falls will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Cy Falls coach David Raffield confirmed that the teams and the school district agreed on the deal Friday morning. Contracts are expected to be signed within two weeks.

''This is an incredible opportunity for our school,'' Raffield said.

The game will be played at the state-of-the-art Berry Center, a year-old facility that hosts many of the Cy-Fair ISD's football and basketball contests.

Berry is considered to be one of the best high-school athletic complexes in the state. It's football stadium holds approximately 11,000. Berry was also the site of the teams' meeting last year, a game which Cypress Falls won in dramatic fashion 22-21 on Oct. 20, 2006.

Both teams went on to have stellar seasons — Cy Falls became the first Cy-Fair ISD team to make it to the state finals before falling to Cedar Hill 51-17 in the Division II Class 5A championship game. Cy-Fair reached the Division I Class 5A Region III championship for the second straight season, losing to Pearland 16-15.

Aside from the programs' success and rivalry, one of the main attractions will undoubtedly be Cy-Fair running back Sam McGuffie. The 5-11, 185-pound junior rushed for 3,121 yards and 43 touchdowns last season and became known around the nation for hurdling a defensive back in the Bobcats' Nov. 3 win over Cypress Creek, which was captured by the cameras of Ch. 55's High School Sports Live. To date, the clip has received over 430,000 hits on YouTube.com.

Upon hearing the news, an excited McGuffie said ''We're going to win this time.''

The announcement comes less than a year after The Woodlands and Lufkin met on ESPN2 on Oct. 26, 2006 at Moorhead Stadium in Conroe. Lufkin won that battle 31-7.
