What do you do when you receive poor customer service / encounter a rude service staff?

My friend doesn't care and has no problems returning to the business.

Not only do I not want to return to the business, I am trying to figure out how to put the place out of business.

Q: Right or wrong, should you support a friend's boycott of a business?

    A: Heck yeah!

I don't care if I get poor customer service. Usually it's just one bad apple in the company or someone might be having a bad day. I don't take things too personally. Ultimately, if I like the product the company is selling I will return no matter what.

I think it really depends on what the service was? Was it just a rude cashier? A horrible waitress at a restaurant? Bad food at a restaurant? I think a lot of things depend on the situation. If I have multiple bad service experiences from the same place I tend to boycott. But you can't quit going somewhere because of one person, unless that person is that store.

If it's a fast food restaurant or a large franchise we complain to the websites or higher ups and we get free coupons.

I don't care much about service unless the thing they're selling IS their service.

So I tolerate bad service as long as I like the product they're selling, whether it be food, clothing, or electronics.

    I follow these rules:

If you have GOOD service, tell others.
If you have BAD service, tell them.

I understand the first one, but why waste time with the second one?

I hope someone puts you out of business when you look at them the wrong way.

Most people who work in "customer service" get paid minimum wage.

    So they don't give a ****.

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. It happens. Getting wound up about it just makes my day worse.

I avoid all those idiots by shopping online if at all possible.

Act like a jerk in a "service" industry, I'll stop using your "service".

If the customer was always right, there would be no businesses left. I think 7 times out 10 the problem is the customer. The store is trying to get your money and trying to keep you as a repeat customer, so there's no way everybody working there is trying to screw you over. Your vindictiveness makes me think you are just an unreasonable customer who thinks people should bend over backwards for you.

Like others have said, it depends on the business.

If I'm at Target buying a case of beer and the cashier is b****y, I really don't care. I'll treat someone exactly how they treat me. If they're nice, I'm nice back. If not, who cares.

Restaurants are different. I know those waiters work their asses off and have to put up with a lot of BS, and I'm sympathetic to that. If someone screws up, I don't make a big deal out of it. I'll kind of laugh it off while asking that it gets corrected. No big deal.

But if the guy just isn't even trying (this is pretty rare), I won't make a big deal about it....until it's time for the tip. That way, no one spits in my food and I can get the last laugh by leaving a $0.01 tip. Again, I can count how many times I've had to do this on one hand. I can't stand it when people treat wait-staff like slaves.

My rule of thumb with CS is honey over vinegar. So when I get bad CS, I blame the company culture.

Supporting a friend's boycott? Maybe. Depends on that friend and what kind of credibility he or she has in that area.

'Best' Buy is the worst. The only thing I will buy there is clearance items. Their prices are horrid, anyway.

Home Depot is bad. I stopped buying there. Lowes will pricematch them anyway.

Wal-Mart is a toss up. It's almost like a government position. It's all about location and local culture.

bad customer service is a part of life. but it's easy to turn things around and actually get them to help you. you can usually tell upon the initial contact whether the person cares or not. if i've got a problem with their product, i know it's not the rep's fault. I'll tell them exactly that. and i'll say i'm not blaming them but would appreciate it they can assist in getting the situation straightened out. they always become more receptive after that.

If it's a bad worker, I won't boycott. With turnover in CS jobs, they won't be around long anyway. But, if the problem is obviously the result of bad processes or bad management decisions or if I keep getting bad service from multiple people, I'll boycott.

If I don't like the service somewhere, I try to find the same (or very similar) products somewhere else. Each business has a right to provide whatever kind of service they want to provide. If you don't like it, shop somewhere else, or put up with the bad service and keep shopping there.
