There's a couple of bad customer service stories floating around right now, so it seems like the perfect time to post an email I sent out today.

First off I was buying an item online for my sister who's off at college, because I have a credit card and she doesn't. But because the billing and shipping addresses are different I needed to sign an authorization form to let them send it to the different address in order to prevent fraud. I was okay with it but... well, here's the email I fired off about an hour ago:

I have to start out by saying that I am very
dissatisfied with the service I've gotten from
XXXXXXXXX. I got this "on hold" notice for my
Flash Drive because I am buying it for a family member
who has a different address than my billing address.
I understand that. I can accept that your company is
worried about fraud and need me to send in an
    authorization form.

But I have tried to fax in my authorization to the
626-XXX-XXXX number two times now. Once on Friday
afternoon and also today, Monday morning. And both
times there has not been a fax machine turned on to
    received faxes at that number.

I then tried to deal with the situation by calling the
customer service number 626-XXX-XXXX. When I pressed
one for customer service, there was a recording that
said the person was unavaliable, and that I would be
transferred. If the person was unavaliable, why would
I want to be transferred to them. Needless to say,
when I was transferred, the line just cut off right
there. I went through this charade 3 times. Why
can't your phone system handle putting people on hold.
And why isn't your fax machine plugged in.

All of this shows your business to be totally
unprofessional, and I only hope that your service in
terms of responding to emails is better than your
    phone customer service.

If I can't get a response within a day, and get my
authorization faxed through cleanly, then I will
cancel this order. So if you are reading this after
Tuesday, September 28th at 10am pacific time, then
    consider my order cancelled.

There you go. What about you guys, any terrible customer service stories that you'd like to share.

    ATT Wireless.

I got two sides of the customer service coin with them. WE moved from Austin to NW Houston and we weren't able to get a signal at our new house. So I called them up and said,
"I can't use this service anymore because I can't get any signal. Nothing else I like the phone and the service but if I can;t use the phone what's the point. I understand if you have to charge me a cancellation fee."

The ATT guy was like, "No sir, it wouldn't be right to charge you that fee if you move to a location that doesn't get any signal, I see that you have been a loyal customer and you said that you wouldn't change to another carrier if you didn't have to and I believe you. I'll waive that cancellation fee."

WTF?! I'm pleasantly surprised to say the least. :D

    Flip side.

So I tell my wife and she calls up and says that she needs to cancel her service as well for the same reason. Instead of Mr. Cool, she gets some B**ch with an attitude.
Yes, we need to cancel my service.
"Why?" (one word just like that.)
Well because we moved and we can't get a signal where we are now.
"Well we kain't have towers evrywherr ma'am." (I didn't mistype, that's how she said it... cain't; evrywherr) OK, Nelly. That's fine.
"We kain't waive yo fee neither."

My wife tells her that I got the fee waived.
"Well he must have been a corporate customer or somethin' cuz sometimes we can do that if they have been a loyal customer"
My wife informs her that she is also a corporate customer and has been with ATT wireless 4 years longer than I was.
"Well ma'am that don't really matter..."
WTF, you just said it would matter!!!!

    My girl goes ballistic.

Long story short the ATT "lady" wanted my social security number or she wouldn't discuss it further. I NEVER gave them my social the first time, why would she need it now? My wife offered my name account number, address, etc. but she wanted my ssn or nothing.

We ended up paying the cancellation fee on her account.

Got one from the other perspective. I was working at the Diamond Shamrock on 290 near Jones. Place gets packed as all hell at rush hour, they had the cheapest gas around. I would be left alone to man the store during the rush. When of course you'd get the idiot whining that they'res no ice on the beer. (How can you go out and put more ice or more beer out for that matter when you have a steady stream of customers and you're the only one working?)

My favorite was the jackass who would put like $5 in the tank and then come in and pay with a $100 bill. Hello moron!!!! It's a gas station everyone knows we only keep like $30 in the drawer because we get robbed like crazy. Still said jackass would become irate by my refusal to accept such a large denomination and would demand that I give the gas for free since it was my fault I didn't have enough change. This occured so frequently I began to keep close to a $100 in change in the drawer. I finally got fired for that little infraction. If you ever visited that diamond shamrock, it was on the feeder over by all the car dealerships about five years ago, and remember the door having that spiderweb crack in it. That's because I kicked it in on my way out.:D

    AT&T Wireless

I had two accounts (2 numbers) because I had just moved to Texas. So I called in to cancel my old number. They proceeded to do that and more.

They cancelled both numbers and charged me the early termination. SO then I'm out of 2 phone connections for almost a week. (no telling how many future employers' calls I missed).

Everytime I went to Best Buy someone would abduct and rape a member of my family. My letters were never answered, either! Sheesh!
