Texans move Cushing to middle for rest of season By JOHN McCLAIN Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle Strong side linebacker Brian Cushing has been moved into the middle, where he will replace the injured DeMeco Ryans for the rest fo the season. Cushing, who played all three linebacker spots at USC, will start at middle linebacker against Indianapolis on Monday night “(We coaches) met and talked about this at length, and we decided that Brian is the best fit for middle,” coach Gary Kubiak said after practice today. “Brian has the talent and the leadership ability to do what we need at that position” Kevin Bentley, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery three weeks ago, will replace Cushing on the strong side. He will be backed up by Xavier Adibi, who did not practice because he is recovering from a hamstring injury. Adibi is expected to be available for the game against the Colts. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/7262707.html
I was thinking it was about him spending a day with the Astros, then remembered that the Astros season ended 3 weeks ago.
I'm sure he can play left field better than the Astros' other option at this point. And with his freakish leaping ability, he'll make Sportscenter pretty often.
I think this season is going to be very ugly for the defense. I hope they don't change Cushing blitzing on third downs
He's a little banged up as well. But even if he wasn't, vets like Bentley and Adibi would probably get the nod over him just because of the experience factor. Don't forget that Bush sends DeMeco in on blitzes every now and then, I'm sure he'll continue to do the same with Cushing, if not more.
I'm going to say that the defense gets better this week with the change and two weeks to make adjustments. I like Cushing's instincts to help better contain the possibility of big plays.
It can't get any worse than the second half of the Chiefs game. Plus, you do realize that Addai, Clark, & Collie are out?
Wayne and Garcon are still going to be very difficult to stop. The question is can Indy adjust and stop Foster? If our D can get a few stops, we need to feed the beast over and over.
Probably because no one has any film of Cushing in the middle without Demeco. Peyton has nothing to study. May make it easier to fool him. Rocket River
kevin bentley has always impressed me on special teams, he's a pretty heavy hitter.. i was hoping they'd give sharpton a shot, maybe an adjustment this season will shift ryans back to outside line backer, where i think he could make more plays with his athleticism. ryans and cush blitzing from the outside would just be ridiculous if we had a solid guy in the middle (not to sure why the leader/playcaller HAS to be a MLB other then football "tradition"), but due to our lack of dtackles this wouldnt work for us right now.
