    Go Coogs.

Memphis made us look pretty bad on national TV last time. Hopefully we will be more motivated than they are to win this.

If we get all our weapons going at once and don't wilt to thier pressure we have a punchers chance.

We are listed at 14.5 point dogs. I think we will keep it close.

Dammit, the little cable TV Guide thing said the game started at 11. I missed the first 9 minutes of game action.

Man....to go from a great lead to being down 11 by half time really sucks....we always manage to do that against better teams. Start off really hot and then just let them back in the game and take the momentum.

We just have no size. Hard to keep bigger teams off the boards. Hopefully we can recruit some bigger guys.

Forget Hakeem and Drexler...this team could use Bo Outlaw or Carl Herrerra

No size equals poor rebounding. Can't hit free throws, defense sucks. Next year this team should be good with a good recruting class and the return of Lanny Smith and a big body like transfer Marcus Cousin.

That has recently been our biggest problem. We are lacking size up front. When your center is 6' 8" it doesn't help much.

Not they they would have necessarily won otherwise, but UH got screwed by the format. 3 games in 3 days sucks. Memphis had to do it too, but UH isn't as deep and they had to play the late game yesterday only to get back up and play a 10:30 game today. I hate to think how tired Rice would have been if they were forced to play a 4th game in as many days.

After watching them score 24 points in the first 10 minutes at a hard pace, I knew the Cougars would run out of gas. They had no chance today and Memphis definitely didn't play their best game.

Am I the only one tired of Tom Penders? I'm not saying a new coach would necessarily win more games, but I wouldn't mind if he left.

I don't know much about Houston's basketball situation, except for the Olajuwon era (obviously), but what happened? Why isn't the basketball program still competitive?

Lots of reasons, Houston and Rice have never had much cachet with the casual Houston sports fan. So they have to really be doing something spectacular to fill the building. After Guy V retired, the team had some reasonable success under Pat Foster, but nothing to keep the city excited about. Every once in a while we find a small gem Herrerra, Outlaw, Damon Jones but we just haven't been able to get over the hump.

After that some bungled coaching/recruiting, the break-up of the SWC depriving us of much in the way of rivalries for the fans to get excited about. We had trouble keeping athletes eligable for a while. Clyde came in to coach briefly but it sort of reeked of publicity stunt, and I don't think Glyde realized the amount of effort involved. I am excited about what Penders is doing, even if we took a half step back this year. Even if this is just a stepping stone for him its better than a McCallum or Brooks. (I had high hopes for McCallum too).

I guess the gist is its hard to get kids to want to play for UH in front of 4,000 at Hofheinz and even fewer on the road at some of the sleepier C-USA venues. But hopefully we can excite recruits with more wins, we already have decent facilities and a good city to sell.

This team is competitvie. You have to realize they had ALOT of injures throughout the season. For the record, Tom Penders first three years is the best start for a basketball coach in UH history. With Lanny Smith coming back from injury next year, the Coogs will hopefully break through to the NCAA's.
