From Rotoworld... WFAN in New York is reporting that the Diamondbacks will trade Curt Schilling to the Red Sox for Casey Fossum and two prospects. Because he'd like to again play for probable Red Sox manager Terry Francona, Schilling apparently has become open to waiving his no-trade clause to go to Boston. He'd still want a contract extension as part of the deal, though, and the two sides could spend the next three days hammering that out.
Pedro and Schilling 1,2 in a rotation. I'm sure Steinbrenner will find a way to blame his staff for not acquiring Schilling.
Wow...Pedro and Schilling heading a rotation with that kind of offense. Unfortunately, this could mean the Yanks would be even more likely to do everything to bring back Pettite.
It would be an exceptional trade for Boston. However if it were to happen I could seen George buying up more players than ever.
the dude is an animal and his best days are not behind him. he still has 2 more good years in him. his injury problem this year was a freak accident and when he got back he dominated. the sox finally have a clutch player on their team. schilling is the man.
Just saw on ESPN where Peter Gammons said that Arizona has agreed to the trade and the trade in contingent on Schilling waiving his no-trade clause. Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, and two as of now un-named minor league players head to Arizona in this deal. Unless the two unknowns are top level prospects in the Boston organization, I can't believe Steinbrenner would stand by and watch Boston acquire Schilling for so little in return.
He is still far superior to anything that Boston has in the rotation after Pedro and Lowe. Hell, I will go as far as saying that I think that Curt at his age now is better than Lowe (but not by much). Wow. Obviously, these 2 teams like to deal with each other and make major trades - first the Kim-Hillenbrand deal and now this. A rotation of Pedro, Schilling, D Lowe, Kim (he was WAY more effective as a starter than a reliever last season) and Wakefield is a rotation that would have gotten by the Yankees this past season (or at least I would think it could but then again...).
Rotoworld's updated analysis... ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting that the Diamondbacks will receive Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Jorge De La Rosa and Michael Goss from the Red Sox if Curt Schilling agrees to go to Boston. Stark says it won't be a three-team trade, but it still looks like the Diamondbacks are going to acquire Richie Sexson from the Brewers. He didn't know whether Schilling would accept the trade. Along with Fossum and Lyon, the Red Sox would be giving up their best pitching prospect in De La Rosa. Goss is a speedy outfielder without a lot of potential.
Dude is an animal... dude still probably has 2 good years left... but there's no way his best days are not behind him (just some common sense here.... he'll never be as good as he was at the beginning of 2001). How do you guys think the change of leagues, and the tougher batting of the AL will affect Curt? He's been an NL-only pitcher his entire career... and sometimes, having the knowledge of a hitter's tendencies works to the pitchers favor... then again, it could also work vice versa, and thus the hitter NOT knowing the pitcher could speall tragedy to the batter. He did pitch pretty good in the WS in 2001, if that's any indication on how he'll do in the AL... or more importantly, against the Yankees. I do worry about Fenway Park though... see, Curt likes to give up the long ball... but he normally does it when nobody is on base. Some of those screamers hit to left, that would normally be out at some stadiums, may bang off the monstah and create men on base. But... who cares... if you're the Red Sox, you do this move in a heartbeat. Giving up prospects??? WHO CARES!!!... they're not a small-money franchise, and none of those guys (while they have some potential), was creating the hype of Prior or Beckett.
Excellent trade for the Sox. It's a HUGE gamble because Schilling's 65-year-old head could fall off, but he's the kind of horse that could carry the Sox into the World Series. I hate losing Fossum, though. Still, it seems like a pretty solid calculated risk. I'm becoming a bigger and bigger Theo Epstein fan....
Good to see you came to your senses and included that last bit in there. What I have always wondered is if Schilling is/was on the sauce because his power and control went off the charts when he went to Arizona. Becareful what you wish for Bo-Sox fan. You just might easily be wishing you hadn't made this deal come next season. THE CURSE LIVES!!!
