My God it feels like someone beat me over the head with a freaking crowbar or something. I think it was the wine that did it. So what are your cures for hangovers? I really dont prep myself that well. I was thinking about eating - but I may ralph. peace
Somebody told me that if you drunk a lot the previous night and wake up with a hangover the best cure is to drink ONE ice cold beer when you wake up and right when you wake up and you won't get a headache, feel dizzy, or vomit. I haven't tried it but it's what I have been told.
nothing cures a hangover like more alcohol. other than that, just drink a few glasses of water before you go to bed.
I find that my prescription migraine pills work pretty well. That's what my mom gave me the first time I had a hangover. My mom's so cool! I have also found that vomiting a few times usually takes care of it too...although it's really unpleasant for a while there.
There are two solutions to a hangover......... 1. Drink a big glass of water before you go to sleep 2. Or don't drink so damned much.
Best Hangover Cure - 16 oz. Whole or 2% Milk 3 tablespoons peanut butter 1 packet carnation instant breakfast mix, preferably vanilla 1 bananna all blended in a blender and taken with 2 aspirin. Hangover gone in 20 minutes. And pedialyte will help if taken the night before.
My dad swears that a big, greasy breakfast is the best cure for a hangover. Has to do with the grease soothing the stomach lining or something. I prefer the "lots of water before bed method."
Yeah, a cheese burger and fries will definitely help if you have a normal hangover but if you have the kind where you are about to chuck at the smallest hint of nastiness then you want to use the blender method in my above post because your stomach won't be having to grind anything up. If you want a medical breakdown of why a high calorie shake like the one I mentioned will help with a hangover is is because of two reasons. The first is you are dehydrated, that shake has a lot of moisture in it and minerals to help that. Next is your body is using alcohol as its primary fuel source. Alchohol has 7 calories a gram but makes your body feel like crap when it is the primary fuel source and your muscles are out of glycogen. All the fat and carbs in that shake will replace the glycogen, and the protein will slow down your digestion rate so that the blast isn't too sudden. It has a calming effect on your system. Taken with two aspirin, your brain inflammation will go down too.
sex will make you dizzy. I drank for 7 hours on Thursday (20 plus drinks) and I think I got alcohol poisoning. I had one beer on Friday and I almost ralphed. I feel much better today.
I'm in the same boat as Drewdog this "morning". Last night I was planning on having a quiet night at home. Then my neighbor comes over and we decide to go drink. urghhhh..... Whenever the tequila shots come into play after 5-6 beers it's never a good night. My method for curing hangovers is: 1) showering - nothing worse than feeling like **** and having to smell your hair which still reeks of smoke from the bar. 2) "putting my feet to sleep" - gotta unload any nastiness in the system by spending some quality time on the crapper. 3) gatorade 4) eating a full meal. not just the granola bars in your pantry since you're too lazy to cook anything else. I used to take advil or tylenol, but have since stopped after I had a liver scare last fall. I actually had to stop drinking for 2 months after I messed up my liver on a carribbean cruise. 9 straight days of drinking is not a good idea and I will not do it again. My doctor told me not to take Tylenol under any circumstances. Advil also has a warning on the package about potential liver damage when combined with booze.
I've been there too many times. On the 5th of July I puked on the hour starting at 6am and ending around 2pm. I finally ate something at 8 that night. I have had this happen many times I have always wondered if it is alchohol poisoning, but sometimes I drink about the same and I don't really feel too bad the next day, so I don't know. I was drinking Hpnotiq on the 4th (as a joke) so that probably had something to do with it.
Drew, there's some really good advice on here. Yes, wine and champagne definitely will get you more f*cked up and hungover than other liquors. In fact, one of my worst hangovers came a couple of years ago on New Year's Eve, when I cashed a whole bottle of mid-range champagne by myself. Anyways, here's my usual routine. 1. Post drinking: after drinking, and before you go home, eat something really greasy. My choice is usually breakfast tacos (potato, egg, and cheese) from Magnolia or Kerbey Lane. This stuff will soak up alot of the alcohol. 2. After getting home, proceed to slam waters down like there's no tomorrow. Even if you're completely full, force yourself to drink at least 3-4 glasses of water. The whole cause of a hangover is nothing more than dehydration. Drinking water before passing out will rehydrate your body somewhat and will ease your pain on the morning after. 3. If you have to, throw up before you go to bed. Better to let that stuff out than keep it in and have it affect you the next day. Also, there's a chance you may throw up while you're sleeping. Happened to me a couple of times in college. 4. I have heard good things about the cold beer in the morning from friends, however, I have never tried it. 5. Constantly drink water. I can't stress this enough. Alka-Selzer will ease your stomach as well. Stay close to the bathroom because nothing's worse than having a bad case of the "green apple splatters."
That phrase could very well go in the "favorite bbs quote" thread. Drew, for some reason Mountain Dew always works for me. I heard it has something to do with the fruit juices and the acid settling your stomach. Whatever it is, it hasn't failed me yet.
That sounds like something you would tell a pledge, "Hey go drink a couple cans of mountain dew for that hangover... it'll really help... and get me a left handed smoke shifter while you're at it."
Did you go see DLR Drew? Is there any way to know if you're having a 'liver scare'? Are there any symptoms? How did you find this out?
There are not always symptoms, it's actually kinda scary. I was on a business trip in Atlanta and I had severe pain when swallowing (yeah no jokes, please). This pain was completely unrelated to my liver troubles. I went to a doctor there, and he ran a panel of blood tests just because I was a new patient to him. It came up that my liver enzymes were very very high, so he told me that I needed to stop drinking immediately or risk losing my liver - which puts you on a transplant list a mile long. The liver is a strange organ. The best thing about it is that it's regenerative, so it grows back if you beat it down. He also told me that 90% of the whinos under the bridge who drink everyday don't have liver troubles. It's many times a genetic thing. If you really, really drink too much, you can get alcohol-induced hepatitis (hepatitis is a generic term for any inflammation of the liver, it's not necessarily the STD version, called Hepatitis B.) In this case your skin will turn a yellowish color, you will have upper-right quadrant pain, and your liver may even appear to bulge out of your abdomen.
