Prior looks really average so far, in trouble in the first the Marlins only got a run but it could have been worse.

    C-1
    M-1

    Start of second

Pavano is not looking great either ...

Figures he has to have his bad game in the front end of a double header against the Cubs ... Lets hope the Marlins bats can turn it on.

    3-1 Cubs :(

    4-1 cubs.

58 pitches for Pavano and he's not even out of the third inning yet.

Maybe someone can enlighten me. I just don't understand how they can start David Weathers in Game 2. The Marlins HAVE to get these 2 games or it becomes almost impossible for them to win this thing. This is their season right here. Where is the sense of urgency? Why not Willis on short rest? I know it ruines the rest of the rotation but they have to win these 2 to make those games meaningful. I just don't understand this lack of urgency from the Marlins.

Based on the last 24 hours, Pavano pitching poorly in the biggest game of the season for Florida should practically take him out of Cy Young consideration. Especially since Clemens just pitched a two-hit shutout on national TV (one of which I still feel was a misplay by Kent). Case could be made for Randy Johnson though.

Maybe I'm just bitter about today. I hate the Cubs.

And that can't be true about Weathers. McKeon is supposed to be a respected manager.

I wish I were in Vegas! I'd put all my money on the Cubs in game 2. Starting Weathers? You got to be kidding!

Cubbies have an absolute joke of a schedule after today's games. Fish need to take 1 out of 2 to give anyone else a shot at the WC.

The only good thing about Pavano losing is that Roy-O and Clemens will move ahead of him in the Cy Young chase.

    The Marlins are officially done.

As Lil Francis pointed out, Pavano absolutely sucked it up when his team needed him the most.

12 hits & 5 ER in the most important game of the season? Pathetic.

Look for Weathers to give up about 10 runs in first 2 innings of game 2, which will allow the Cubs to rest their bullpen and starters.

edit: but Baker is leaving Prior in to hit & pitch the 8th.. Maybe he'll ride him until his arm falls off.

Yeah, but Prior is the better pitcher. You had to expect the Cubbies to win that game. Plus, you have to remember, the Cubbies are always given hope before it is snatched away from them at the last minute. This is the way it goes. They will probably have a three game lead with 4 to go. And they will give it up to us. Don't worry.

Wow, Prior is back out with 114 pitches already.

Let's hope that the Marlins can get to him this inning.

Are you saying Prior is a better pitcher than Pavano? Their stats for the year and how they were both pitching up to this game would not support that statement.

Hmm.. Baker is using Hawkins to close out the first game, even though he has a 4 run lead and another game..

seems questionable to burn Hawkins now. I guess Baker has confidence in Weathers' abilities.

Well, if David Weathers is going to pitch one good game this year, it is this one here.

Matt Clement hasn't been healthy lately. Lets hope that the Fish can get to him early.

I'm going to call it right now. David Weathers has melted down in Houston. He was burned...badly...nothing left but his corpse burning on the ground....then, only ashes...

Marlins win 3-0, Phoenix Weathers pitches a 3 hit complete game shutout.

    Amen to that.

David could pay us back for all the good we did for him in Houston.

I predict a 4 hit 6-scoreless inning outing for him. Dont let us down David.
