I did a couple of searches for "Cuba" and "Cuban" but didn't see any thread (maybe I'm blind?). But I wanted to bring this to the attention of CF. There are multiple articles here spanning from when the players went missing until they got a contract offer.

    Here is when Cuba reacted.

And now, they've got a contract offer.

WHOA. This is incredible. First off, it's the ultimate "No matter how much you win, you still lose" scenario. Second of all, it happened JUST after Raul Castro took over. Any thoughts? I think this is incredible. In a time where so many people are unsure of just how great this country is anymore, 7 people in Michael Moore's Cuban Paradise (TM) came to America for their chance at a decent life.
It's stories like this that remind me of how much I love America.

Obviously you do, since you posted, bladeage :D.

They did that also when one of the Copa Oro games with Cuba was held in Reliant. This is common, yo.

Hey, you'd care if it was a Soviet defecting to America...
    And if it was 1986.

Pretty much anytime Cuba plays a tournament here a few players will defect so I don't think Raul taking over had anything to do with it, it's just more of the same. I don't think there have been that many at once before though. It's got to be a strange feeling for those guys though, leaving behind their families to chase a dream, not knowing how things will work out.

And they could have had the decency to throw the US game since they're basically handing the other teams in our group 3 points.

I was with you until this ridiculous strawman. Moore's point is that a country as poor and ****ty as Cuba can afford to provide decent health care to all of its citizens, not that Cuba itself was a paradise or a model for emulation because of its health care system.

I was trying to be sarcastic (hence the TM); I actually got the idea from a friend of mine who posted on my Facebook. I know sarcasm is tough to display via test, but come on. I wasn't SERIOUSLY trying to claim Moore thinks Cuba is a paradise. He's a propagandist, not an idiot.
But while I'm at it, I DON'T want public healthcare. It's too expensive, and I don't want to pay for it. But I'm a libertarian, so what would you expect?
