Wolfowitz is in front of the Senate committee talking about money needed for Iraq. If it's rebroadcast any at all interested should watch it. I'll just highlight a couple of interesting things that I've seen. 1. Wolfowitz claimed that Iraq was now the central battle in the war on terrorism. Feingold (D) responded with shock. He brought up Yemen, Afghanistan, and other countries where Al Qaeda is active and asked how Iraq was the central battle in terrorism. 2. Lincoln Chaffee (R) asked Wolfowitz about the shifting reasons for why we went to war. He pointed out that the UN charges against Charles Taylor pointed out that he killed and raped 500,000 of his own people, had his 13 year old daughter flogged in public, had connections to brutal military groups, and was responsible for more multiple wars in Africa. Chaffee said that if we went in to Iraq because of how brutal Saddam was, then Liberia was certainly a just cause. Feingold added that there was more proof of Al Qaeda connection to Charles Taylor than there was to Saddam. 3. Barbara Boxer (D) pointed out that one month after 9/11 the Bush administration gave a map highlighting all the contras where AL Qaeda was active. Iraq was NOT highlighted. It's important to note that the info was from the Bush administration itself. 4. Many asked Wolfowitz and the Bush administration to come up with a budget for the cost of the operations in Iraq. The budget director from the whitehouse, and Wolfowitz said that the Whitehouse will not include any of the cost of Iraq in the budget submitted for 2004, but they will keep coming to congress asking for suplemental grants for money. I'm kind of a political news junkie, and there are many times when I can't handle watching CSPAN but this is very interesting, and anyone who's interested and has the time should check it out.
