Anybody tried a Crossfit program, when you are completely out of shape? Did you quit after a few weeks? Were you able to handle the load?

I've been Crossfitting for over a year now. It's changed my view of fitness forever, and I am in the best shape of my life in my 30's.

My Crossfit gym follows the HQ workouts on the main site, so I follow that schedule for the most part. It's 3 days on and one day off. Outside of a few workouts, I do most of the workouts as prescribed now.

My Crossfit affiliate requires every new Crossfit member to a Crossfit foundations class, where you learn all the movements for the Olympic lifts, kettlebell swings, GHD machine, double-unders, etc. I suggest you find a place that offers basic instruction. Otherwise, you could easily hurt yourself doing Crossfit.

As far as load is concerned, you can always scale down or ask the trainers for alternative workouts. For example, one recent workout involved a total of 84 front squats at 185lbs and 84 GHD sit-ups for time. No one starting should ever do that workout as prescribed, especially not GHD sit-ups. I saw plenty of people with 95 lbs on front squat and abmat situps as alternatives.

I actually threw up after my first workout because I was so out of breath. I think my first workout was Helen (heavily scaled down). I never felt so worn out after a workout in my life, and that's what sold me on Crossfit.
